USARA National Championship Almost Underway in Almost Heaven
September 26, 2024
/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The US Adventure Racing National Championship begins on Friday morning, September 27th in Snowshoe, West Virginia. Launching out of Snowshoe Mountain Resort, elevation 4,848’, the race will take 74 teams of three from across the country on a journey through the heart of the Monongahela National Forest, a remote and rugged wilderness perfect for the National Championship.
Teams must stay together throughout the race, which runs, non-stop, for 30 hours, finishing Saturday afternoon in the Snowshoe Village Central. Teams will travel on foot, by bike and canoe, although severe drought conditions in the state are threatening to cancel the paddle. Teams navigate to checkpoints using map and compass.
Adventure Addicts Racing, founded in 2011 and operating under the leadership of Michelle Faucher (Executive Director) and Liz Notter (Operations Director), will direct the race. “Snowshoe is an outdoor recreation dream. The singletrack biking is world class and the mountain vistas are incredible,” said Faucher. The Adventure Addicts team is excited to be directing the first USARA National Championship in West Virginia, and USARA is eager for teams to learn why the area is called “Nature’s Mountain Playground.”
