Athlete-focused document encourages responsible practices for race travel during COVID-19
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— USA Triathlon today unveiled its “Travel Like a Pro” resources, the latest addition to its comprehensive Safe Return to Multisport initiative. The documents and infographics are designed for use by age-group and elite athletes to guide their travel to and from multisport races amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The recommendations have been developed by medical experts in partnership with USA Triathlon, relying on resources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and World Triathlon.
The “Travel Like a Pro” resources begin with an Athlete Responsibility Statement, which encourages responsible social distancing and prevention measures in the lead-up to race travel. The documents then outline race-week infection prevention measures and checklists for air travel, ground transportation, accommodations, meals and dining, and onsite commutes.
USA Triathlon’s Safe Return to Multisport initiative, launched in May 2020, is a comprehensive and multi-pronged set of racing and training guidelines and recommendations for the multisport community to manage the effects of COVID-19. In addition to “Travel Like a Pro,” the resources also include “USA Triathlon Safe Return to Multisport Guidelines,” “Return to Racing Recommendations for Athletes,” “Return to Racing Recommendations for Race Directors,” “Recommendations for Organized Mass Gatherings” broken out by gathering size, “Return to Racing Guidelines for Officiating,” and a “Return to Racing Training Program.”
More information and all documents comprising the Safe Return to Multisport initiative can be found at usatriathlon.org/safe-return.

USA Triathlon continues to monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19, while following the guidance of local authorities, the CDC and the WHO when making decisions regarding the status of USA Triathlon events and programs.
