USA Triathlon Officials Program Now Recognized as a World Triathlon Accredited Technical Officials Education Program
July 10, 2023
Being recognized by World Triathlon accreditation is a major step forward in USA Triathlon’s long-term efforts to achieve alignment with global standards governing multisport.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo./ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – USA Triathlon today announced the organization’s Officials Program is now recognized as a World Triathlon Accredited Technical Officials Education Program (ATOEP), joining 16 other leading world federations with the designation and global recognition.
“Being recognized by World Triathlon accreditation is a major step forward in USA Triathlon’s long-term efforts to achieve alignment with global standards governing multisport,” said Mark Turner, USA Triathlon Commissioner of Officials. “This recognition positions USA Triathlon to help lead in the development and growth of multisport rules, rules enforcement, and officiating best practices.”
“Major kudos to Mark Turner and his Officials team to earn this recognition. This has been several years of work in the making,” said USA Triathlon CEO Victoria Brumfield. “The U.S. is a leader among World Triathlon federations and this accreditation helps us apply better global standards across the sport.”
USA Triathlon earned accreditation by World Triathlon by achieving these four principles:
- The National Federations’ Technical Official’s levels must match at one point with the World Triathlon Level 1 (NTO)
- The National Federations’ Technical Official education program must include a three (3) level education pathway of their National Technical Officials (NTOs)
- The Competition Rules of the National Federation must match with the World Triathlon Competition Rules
- The National Federation structure must comply with World Triathlon Constitution
USA Triathlon earlier this year released the USA Triathlon 2023 Multisport Competition Rules, a comprehensive new ruleset that aligns USA Triathlon’s competition rules with the global standards set by World Triathlon.
By achieving World Triathlon ATOEP recognition, USA Triathlon improves the opportunity to submit a full slate of official nominees for the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and can now educate U.S. officials on pathways to working at international level competitions.
USA Triathlon will be represented by two U.S. officials at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. World Triathlon earlier this year announced the International Technical Officials who will officiate at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, including Paul Brandt (Lake St. Louis, Mo.), who will work the Olympic Games, and Stevee Espling (Jacksonville, Fla.) who will work at the Paralympic Games.
