10th annual class honors 50 women transforming the sports business
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— USA Triathlon Chief of Staff Victoria Brumfield has been named as a member of the Class of 2020 “Game Changers: Women in Sports Business” by SportsBusiness Journal. The program, now in its 10th year, annually recognizes 50 women in senior leadership roles who are transforming the sports business.
Brumfield will be recognized in the Oct. 19 issue of SportsBusiness Journal and at the eighth annual Game Changers Conference on Oct. 27, which is being held virtually for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m honored to be named among this accomplished group of women in sports business,” Brumfield said. “I hope the Game Changers program can provide young professional women with career role models as well as the confidence that they belong in leadership positions in the sports industry.”
“Vic’s strategic mindset and passion for the job has had a transformational impact on both USA Triathlon and the multisport industry as a whole,” said Rocky Harris, USA Triathlon CEO. “A Game Changer is the perfect description for Vic as she thrives in an evolving environment and is unapologetic about making necessary changes to improve the organization and to grow our sport. We are proud to call Vic a member of the USA Triathlon family, and we congratulate her on being named a 2020 Game Changer.”
Brumfield was hired as USA Triathlon’s first Chief of Staff in March of 2018. At the time she was the only female member of the organization’s six-person Executive Leadership Team, and the first female member of that team in the organization’s history. Since her hiring, she has worked to empower female leaders within the organization, bringing two more women across legal and finance onto the Executive Leadership Team and elevating more women to Director status within the organization.
In her role as Chief of Staff, Brumfield is responsible for directing strategic planning, managing and streamlining the organization’s operational plan, and directly overseeing business administration including human resources, finance and information technology (IT). She provides oversight and guidance on projects with large-scale organizational impact and serves as an advisor for the CEO.
Brumfield is an avid endurance athlete herself and has worked in the endurance sports industry for nearly 20 years, bringing extensive project management and strategic planning experience to her role at USA Triathlon. She has led the turnaround of USA Triathlon from a transactional entity to an organization celebrated for its service leadership by fostering a culture of collaboration both internally and externally.
Under her leadership, USA Triathlon achieved total year-over-year membership growth for the first time in nearly a decade. She facilitated and drove a partnership between USA Triathlon and Triathlon Business International (TBI) to bring the multisport business community together for the first industry-wide endurance sports conference, Endurance Exchange, which held its inaugural event in January 2020 in Tempe, Arizona.
Leading strategy from the front, Brumfield facilitates strategic planning sessions quarterly across the organization, identifying opportunities for realignment to USA Triathlon’s mission and strategic priorities — resulting in 93 percent of employees agreeing that their role directly contributes to the organization’s strategic plan.
