Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k Unveils Winning Design in Participant T-Shirt Contest

Annual media day event includes several special announcements for 2020 race
RICHMOND, VA – Sports Backers and the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger announced the winning design in their first-ever 10k participant shirt voting contest at their annual 10k Media Day gathering at Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods on January 8. A public vote was held from November 7-December 7 with three options to choose from, and voters chose the option titled ‘Dogwood Blossoms on the Avenue’ as the winning design. The design will be featured on the shirt given to participants for the 21st running of the 10k on Saturday, March 28.
The winning design features simple graphics while capturing many elements of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, including the dogwood blossoms that hint of spring, the renowned course turnaround and halfway point full of enthusiastic spectators, and the iconic Richmond row homes along the course.
During the media day event, Sports Backers also made several other special announcements related to this year’s 10k, including the following:
10k Team Incentive Program
The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k brings together the Richmond community and now is offering a competition to encourage participants to form their own teams and take part. The incentive program allows people to create a team and invite friends, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone they know to join them at the 10k. Sports Backers has offered similar programs for the VCU Health Richmond Marathon and CarMax Tacky Light Run and now are offering this for the 10k.The team with the largest number of participants will receive a special prize after this year’s race.
Virginia529 Kids Run Bib Design Contest
A new design contest will allow youth runners to show off their creative side. The Virginia529 Kids Run Bib Design Contest is open to kids ages 12 and under, and the winning design could be chosen as the official race bib for the Virginia529 Kids Run, the one mile kids run happening at the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k!. Entries must be on the official entry form and be received by Feb. 8, and in addition to having their design chosen, the winner will receive a prize pack from the Science Museum of Virginia that includes four general admission passes to the museum and the opportunity to explore three floors of interactive exhibits to amaze and inspire kids and their families.
10k Day with VCU Basketball
In conjunction with VCU Athletics, Sports Backers and the 10k will be the game-day sponsor on Saturday, January 11, for the VCU men’s basketball game against Rhode Island at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The game will feature a variety of 10k-themed promotions and activations for fans to engage with Sports Backers and the 10k. Members of the 6.2 Crew, the legacy program for repeat 10k participants, will deliver the game ball before the 2 p.m. tipoff. Leading up to the game, Sports Backers is also hosting a contest to give away two four-packs of game tickets, and the contest can be found on the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UkropsMonumentAvenue10k/.
The 21st annual Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger is accepting online entries for the March 28, 2020, event at www.sportsbackers.org. Entry fees are currently $35 for adults, $25 for youth 14 and under, and $60 for the YMCA 10k Training Team, which also includes race entry. A registration price increase for the 10k is set for January 16, 2020. Registration for the Virginia529 Kids Run is also open.
