Tour Of Sufferlandria Exceeds Expectations For The Davis Phinney Foundation
March 24, 2021
The virtual cycling event raised more than $390K to help people with Parkinson’s live well today
Mythical Nation, Worldwide — Wahoo SUF, an online platform that provides fierce (and fun) cycling, yoga, and strength training workouts for people all over the world and the Davis Phinney Foundation, raised $390,000 this year in their 9th annual Tour of Sufferlandria. In this remarkable year marked with uncertainty, fundraisers and competitors of all abilities smashed every goal set.
In addition to exceeding the original fundraising goal of $250,000 by a whopping 56%, participant goals were also exceeded by 36% with 3,400 people sweating it out to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. People of all ages (including 15 participants under age 18) joined in from 67 countries. And a staggering 72 teams were created to join forces and help participants ride and raise more than they could alone.
The event featured a daily virtual Zoom ride with some superstars, including former professional cyclists Alex Stieda and Mike Friedman, as well as a daily ride and Q&A with Davis Phinney himself. A lively and friendly competitive online forum kept people of all abilities engaged, informed and connected with one another.
Some highlights:
- The top fundraiser was Pete Huley, who is living with Parkinson’s. See more about him here.
- Pierre Weikamp in Germany made videos for each stage of the race. You can see a sample here.
- Davis Phinney thanked all of the participants. You can see his thank you tribute here.
Wahoo SUF was more than a sponsor for this event. They were also one of the most competitive fundraising teams, sweating, encouraging, and enticing others to participate. All told, their team raised $15,841 to support the Parkinson’s community.
“We set our expectations high, and the Tour of Sufferlandria participants far exceeded them,” says Richard Cook, Development Director for the Davis Phinney Foundation. “We so enjoyed seeing everyone each day of the tour, and we know that through all of the workouts and light-hearted competition, everyone had skin in the game: To help people with Parkinson’s live well today and every day.”
Prizes this year included a variety of items, including gear from Sur Phytoperformance, Wahoo, Thule, ENVE, Rapha, GIRO, Oakley, Primal, Velocio, Scratch Labs, VeloInk, and more.
