The Flagstaff All Star Coaching Clinic Announces Final Surge As Presenting Sponsor

April 29, 2025

The Clinic features professional coaches Greg McMillan, Ben Rosario and Mike Smith

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 29, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ –  The Flagstaff All Star Coaching Clinic, scheduled for July 10 through 13 in Flagstaff, Ariz. and featuring world-renowned professional coaches Greg McMillan, Ben Rosario and Mike Smith has announced that Final Surge will serve as the clinic’s presenting sponsor.

McMillan, Smith and Rosario have a relationship that goes all the way back to 2007 when McMillan coached Smith and Rosario as they prepared for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon—held in the fall of 2007 in New York City. McMillan was the founder and coach of the adidas McMillan Elite team in Flagstaff at the time. He would go on to coach several national and world class distance runners through 2013 including Aaron Braun, Brett Gotcher, Paige Higgins, Andrew Lemoncello, Amy Van Alstine and more.

After moving to Flagstaff in 2012, Rosario launched the Northern Arizona Elite team in 2014. Over the next decade, HOKA NAZ Elite athletes would go on to produce more than 100 wins, 21 national titles, 18 global championship appearances, 14 World Marathon Major Top 10s and one Olympic Trials Victory. During Rosario’s tenure as head coach of the team (2014 through 2021) he worked with U.S. stars like Stephanie Bruce, Scott Fauble, Scott Smith, Kellyn Taylor and Olympian Aliphine Tuliamuk, among many others.

Smith, after a successful run as the head coach of the women’s cross country and track and field teams at Georgetown University, returned to Flagstaff in the fall of 2016 and became the Director of Track and Field at Northern Arizona University in January of 2017. The NAU program quickly became a dynasty, winning six NCAA men’s cross country team titles during a seven-year stretch. Smith also led several Lumberjacks to individual national titles on the track including Abdihamid Nur, Nico Young and Andy Trouard. His professional coaching accomplishments include guiding Luis Grijalva, Woody Kincaid and Nikki Hiltz to the Olympic Games in 2024 and Galen Rupp to a win at the Olympic Trials Marathon in 2020.

Rosario said it’s a full-circle moment to reunite with McMillan and Smith for the Flagstaff Coaching Clinic.

“Greg and Mike and I go back a long way,” Rosario said. “Coming together after all three of us have had so many amazing experiences over the last 18 years and to be able to share those experiences, and our thoughts on training and team-building, with high school, college and aspiring professional coaches will be a highlight of my year for sure.”

Both McMillan and Rosario have both worked with Final Surge for many years, using the platform to communicate with athletes and to share their training with the masses. Final Surge founder Tim Surface will participate in the clinic, sharing what the company offers to coaches and athletes across the endurance training spectrum.

Surface said he was looking forward to being a part of the unique event.

“This is an extremely rare opportunity to learn from and interact with these three amazing coaches,” Surface said. “I love that Final Surge has played a role in their coaching over the years and I’m extremely excited to take part in this incredible event.”

Clinic attendees will receive three days of presentations and question-and-answer sessions with McMillan, Rosario and Smith as well as tours of famous Flagstaff training locations. Optional group runs will kick off Friday and Saturday morning’s itinerary with lunches and dinners provided. All attendees will also receive a complimentary pair of Nike shoes courtesy of Smith’s new corporate partner. He will begin his reign as an official Nike Swoosh TC coach this summer.
