The Charlottesville Marathon and Half Marathon are moving to Knight’s Gambit Vineyard and the stunning Albemarle wine country.
November 2, 2020
Looking to the new running landscape of 2021 and beyond, providing a safe environment is Bad to the Bone Sports’ first priority. Therefore, the Charlottesville Marathon & Half Marathon- produced by Bad to the Bone Sports- has chosen Knight’s Gambit Vineyard of historic Albemarle wine and horse country as the new venue for April 10th, 2021. The stunning pastoral setting of Knight’s Gambit Vineyard, the rolling views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and its surrounding farms will make for an unforgettable experience for all the runners. The rural setting will create the perfect opportunity for runners to socially distance. In addition, even though the race has been much larger in the past, the field in all the events combined will be limited to 500 with waves and extensive safety protocols in place.
Knight’s Gambit Vineyard, the new start and finish location, will be open for tastings during the race. Their lawn, patio and extensive grounds will be the perfect place for runners to have plenty of room to relax after the event and share the moment and accomplishment, all with gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Knight’s Gambit Vineyard is only minutes from downtown Charlottesville, allowing for easy access to travel and lodging.
The course will be comprised of quiet country roads and a mixture of pavement and gravel. The views of the Shenandoah National Park and local horse farms and vineyards make this course one of the most scenic and memorable in the Country. Runners will have plenty of room to distance while enjoying the views.
“We are excited about hosting the event at Knight’s Gambit Vineyard,” says James Russell Gill III, race director and Bad to the Bone Sports’ CEO. “As runners ourselves, we frequent and love all the roads where the race will take place. The setting is quiet and very scenic, with spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the surrounding vineyards and horse farms. We can’t wait to share it all with the runners in April.” “Knight’s Gambit is the perfect venue,” says Dr. Francesca Conte, Bad to the Bone Sports’ President. “The deck and lawn are ideal to relax after the run in a calming outdoor and socially distant setting.”
“We are very excited to partner with Bad to the Bone Sports in hosting the 2021 Marathon,” says Jordan Summers, Manager of Knight’s Gambit Vineyard. “We are thrilled to share our farm with the Charlottesville running community! Here’s to fresh air, good health, beautiful mountain views and a great race day.”
