The Buffalo Marathon Weekend Contributes $294,940 to Best-in-Class Cardiac Programs and Community Organizations in 2021

2021 Community Impact Report for the Buffalo Marathon Weekend
Buffalo, NY August 19, 2021. With the support of Kaleida Health, Tops Friendly Markets, and all of their sponsors, the Buffalo Marathon contributed $294,940 in cash and in-kinds to benefit their community in 2021.
The Buffalo Marathon has contributed a total of $1,051,114 to community organizations and charities since 2001.
“We are excited to announce the community impact of the 2021 Buffalo Marathon Weekend on June 25th & 26th was our most significant to date.” Race Director, Greg Weber said. “Contributing to the organizations and charities that improve our community’s health and wellness is central to our mission and something we’re incredibly proud of during these difficult times.”
Below is a summary of the 2021 Buffalo Marathon fundraising efforts:
- $212,890 was raised for the best-in-class cardiac programs at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute.
- $7,500 was raised for John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.
- $74,550 contributed to 33 organizations that brought more than 1,000 volunteers on race weekend.

Alzheimer’s Association, Bee Gail Food Pantry, Bond Track, Boys on the Run, Buffalo Triathlon Club, Checkers, Engineering Society, Friends of the Night, BTC, Girls On The Run Inc, Hospice, Ionraic, Triathlon Club, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kaleida Health, Kevin Guest House, Kid’s Escaping Drugs, Make A Wish, November Project, PAL, Police Explorers, Running for Those, SPCA, St. Mary’s Track, Sweet Home Education Foundation, Team RWB, The Gow School, The Summit Center, Tri Vault, Trinity Church, UB HEALS, Western New York, Running Hall of Fame, WNY Furtastic, Yogis.

About the Buffalo-Erie Marathon Association Inc.
A 501(c)(3) organization, the Buffalo-Erie Marathon Association Inc. (buffalomarathon.org) organizes and presents the annual Memorial Day Weekend, which includes a 5k, Diaper Dash, Kids Mini Marathon, Ruffalo Stampede dog race, along with full and half marathons. The companion Kaleida Heart to Heart Relay benefits the cardiac care units at Buffalo General Hospital and Gates Vascular Institute. The events combined include 8,000+ runners from more than 10 countries and 45 states. The weekend is supported by more than 1,500 volunteers from 40+ not-for-profit organizations who, over the event’s 19 years, have received grants totaling more than $664,000. The event has an estimated annual economic impact of more than $1,500,000.
