The 31st Annual YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan Returns to Downtown Pittsburgh
November 25, 2021
More than 6,100 runners participated in this year’s event to help fight food insecurity
PITTSBURGH, PA (November 25, 2021) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ –More than 6,100 participants return to downtown Pittsburgh on Thanksgiving morning for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan, and for more than 30 percent of participants, this is their first year participating.
“The Turkey Trot has helped make a difference in the Pittsburgh community since 1991,” said Michael Polite, YMCA Board Chair. “And we could not have been more excited to have families back downtown for this year’s in-person event. So many families came out together to experience the event and support the Y’s efforts to fight food insecurity in our region.”
Participants of all ages came together decked in their favorite holiday gear to toe the start lines for the 1-mile, 5K and 5-mile events. Every registration helps the Y continue its mission, and this year, participants donated an additional $10,100 to help the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and donated food to help provide those in need with meals.
“The mission behind this event is what drives it forward each year,” said Carolyn Grady, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “The collaboration between the Y and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is so important, and each family, group of friends and every runner who participates, is part of that great partnership.” 6 countries 39 states
Ranging from 11 months to 89 years old, family members of all ages and abilities got involved in the holiday tradition. The YMCA again partnered with P3R, the engine behind Pittsburgh’s greatest races, to bring the event back to the streets.
“Pittsburgh has always supported Pittsburgh, and what we saw today was a reflection of that,” said P3R CEO, Troy Schooley. “Families from around the country that have a tie to this city came out to participate in the event together while supporting those in need in this community.”
