The 30th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan Opens Registration for Virtual Event

September 1, 2020

This year’s annual event opens registration with virtual distances for the whole family

PITTSBURGH (September 1, 2020) – Registration is open for this year’s YMCA Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan — the event’s 30th anniversary. The virtual event offers a 5-mile, 5K, and 1-mile fun run distances that families can complete from November 23 through November 29 to celebrate Thanksgiving.

All runners will receive a race day shirt and medal, with the Double Gobble participants receiving an additional gift to commemorate their dual 5-mile and 5K efforts.

“We are so excited to bring families together virtually this year with the 30th annual Turkey Trot,” Kevin Bolding, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, said. “And for the first time, we are celebrating the event and each participant’s efforts with the inaugural Turkey Trot medal.”

Proceeds from the event support the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh’s nonprofit mission to promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in the city it has called home for more than 166 years. Additional donations pledged during the registration process provide Thanksgiving dinner to local families through the YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

“The Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving tradition for many families in the Pittsburgh area, but more importantly, it helps support food security in our region,” said Bolding. “With this year’s virtual option, more families can participate from wherever they are during the holiday week and help make an impact for those in need.”

P3R and the YMCA will post activities for runners of all ages and abilities on social media and via email throughout the duration of the virtual event. Participants are encouraged to use #turkeytrotpgh and tag @RUNwithP3R and @YMCApgh on social media so other runners can follow along and celebrate their virtual race!
