The 30th Annual YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan Receives Record Donations
December 8, 2020
More than 2,500 runners participated in the virtual event and raised over $128,000 to help fight food insecurity
PITTSBURGH, PA (December 8, 2020) – More than 2,500 runners from 35 states and four different countries participated in this year’s virtual YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan, keeping the 30 year Thanksgiving tradition strong.
“The Turkey Trot has been a hallmark event of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh since 1991,” said President and CEO Kevin Bolding. “And although this year’s Turkey Trot looked a little different, families had a Thanksgiving Day experience that got them together and moving, while also supporting the Y’s efforts fighting food insecurity in our region.”
This year’s event raised over $128,000 for the Y’s food insecurity work. A record $14,000 in donations were also received. To help those struggling during the current pandemic, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has distributed over 65 tons of food and more than 440,000 meals and snacks to those in need.
“For us at the Y, it is all about the mission behind the Turkey Trot,” said Carolyn Grady, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “We see families come out every year to celebrate the holiday and support this important collaboration between the Y and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and this year was no different.”
Ranging from 2 months to 91 years old, family members of all ages and abilities got involved in the holiday tradition.
“We are continually inspired by everyone moving with us virtually in 2020, and the Turkey Trot participants were no different,” said P3R CEO, Troy Schooley. “We saw families on social media bring out their turkey hats and move together to kick-off their holiday and make a positive difference in their community.”
