Tailwind Nutrition Signs Three New Athletes as the Brand Deepens Its Commitment to the World of Cycling

February 4, 2025

Maurice Ballerstedt, Sarah Sturm and Christopher Blevins Join the Tailwind Athlete Team in 2025

DURANGO, COLO. – February 4, 2025 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Tailwind Nutrition, a leader in endurance sports nutrition, is proud to announce the addition of three new cyclists to its athlete roster: Christopher Blevins, Sarah Sturm and Maurice Ballerstedt. These three new Tailwind athletes perfectly embody the diverse and multidisciplinary nature of cycling. Unlike other sports where specialization is the norm, cycling celebrates athletes who excel across various disciplines. These three athletes are a testament to this, and Tailwind is proud to support them in all their endeavors.

Tailwind has been connected to cycling from the beginning: Founders Jeff and Jenny Vierling first created the Endurance Fuel formula and brought Tailwind to market in 2012, after Jeff experienced fueling issues while competing in the Leadville 100 MTB. Since then, Tailwind has continued to support the wide world of cycling, in addition to the numerous other endurance sport pursuits, such as running, triathlon and nordic skiing.

Today’s signings show a growing support in the off-road cycling scene—an exciting and growing mix of disciplines that embodies the brand’s spirit of community, adventure and perseverance.

Christopher Blevins, Sarah Sturm, and Maurice Ballerstedt bring exceptional talent, inspiring stories, and a shared passion for pushing their limits on diverse terrains. As the newest Tailwind athletes, they will serve as ambassadors for the brand while competing in a rigorous slate of marquee gravel, MTB, and crit races across the country.

Christopher Blevins

Christopher Blevins is a multi-talented cyclist and Olympian who has achieved major victories in mountain biking, road cycling, gravel cycling, BMX, and cyclocross. His ability to excel across multiple cycling disciplines has made him one of the most exciting American cyclists in recent years.

Blevins won the US XC Mountain Bike Nationals in the Junior category for seven consecutive years. In 2021, he won the UCI XC World Championship short track title and competed in the Tokyo Olympic Games. During the 2024 season, Blevins earned two World Cup 2nd place finishes, a World Cup win, and competed in the Paris Olympics.

“It’s special to be working with a homegrown Durango company and to have such great people who support athletes as a part of the brand,” said Blevins. “I’ve really appreciated working with the team so far, and the vision Tailwind has for growing community, giving back, and making great drink mixes.”

Sarah Sturm

Sarah Sturm is an accomplished off-road cyclist who is no stranger to Tailwind; she lives in Durango, and was sponsored by the brand in its early days. Sturm has a long history of endurance cycling: racing mountain bikes and competing on the professional cyclocross circuit, where she won back-to-back Single Speed Cyclocross National Championships. She now primarily rides gravel, having won the Belgian Waffle Ride and Migration Gravel, and reaching the podium at Unbound and Lifetime Grand Prix. She also completed the Colorado Trail unsupported on a bike.

“I am so excited to officially partner with Tailwind Nutrition,” said Sturm. “As an endurance athlete, nutrition is a crucial part of success in the sport. I have trusted Tailwind Nutrition since I started racing over 10 years ago! I’ll continue to sip their drink for hundreds of miles to come!”

Maurice Ballerstedt

Maurice Ballerstedt is moving to professional gravel and crit racing in the United States after a history of success in professional road cycling, having won the German U-23 National Time Trial Championships and the mixed relay at the 2022 European Road Championships as a member of the Alpecin-Fenix team. Before that he was on the famed Jumbo-Visma Development Team.

“I’m super excited to be a Tailwind athlete,” said Ballerstedt. “Fueling is key in training and racing, and Tailwind offers some of the best solutions on the market. I appreciate their all-natural ingredients and gut-friendly formula.”

In addition to new and existing cycling athlete partnerships, Tailwind is working to show up at a plethora of cycling events in 2025, including MTB and gravel races such as Downieville Classic and Highlands Gravel Classic. Tailwind continuously works to ensure athletes have access to Tailwind on race day to fuel efforts and experiences for racers—professional and casual alike.
