supertri 2024: Record viewing figures in a landmark year for growth, innovation, and social impact

LONDON, UK /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – supertri has capped off a groundbreaking 2024 season, cementing its position as the future of triathlon with a bold franchise model, strategic expansion, record-breaking events with a doubling of broadcast viewership and deeper community engagement.
2024 was a year of record-breaking engagement for supertri:
- Doubled broadcast viewership of supertri events on Eurosport compared to the 2023 season
- Biggest single event broadcast audience this season was Toulouse, with 6 million people watching the race on Eurosport alone
- Chicago Triathlon has grown to 7.4k participants and is now the 4th largest triathlon event in the world, showcasing the accessibility of supertri races
- Achieved an average of 300k engagements and 12 million video views across supertri social platforms per League event race week
- supertri has surpassed its social metrics based on last years’ figures:
- 336 million video views (36% increase)
- 7.9 million engagements (46% increase)
This season marked a pivotal shift with supertri’s successful rebrand from Super League Triathlon and a transition to a franchise-based ownership model, moving away from the traditional league-owned team structure. This innovative approach has strengthened connections with fans, created new opportunities for investors, and revolutionised the triathlon experience globally.
Making significant inroads into North America, supertri launched Boston and Chicago as part of its five-race supertri League. These events delivered thrilling racing just weeks after the Paris Olympics and underscored the league’s commitment to growing short-course triathlon in the U.S. in the lead-up to the LA 2028 Games.
supertri’s first year managing the Long Beach Legacy Triathlon event saw unprecedented success, with participant numbers more than doubling. The event is now one of the fastest-growing triathlons in the world, while supertri’s first year operating Chicago Triathlon saw it become the fourth largest triathlon in the world with increased capacity to grow further in the years ahead.
The supertri E World Championships returned to the iconic London Aquatic Centre, where Beth Potter and Chase McQueen showcased their dominance in the virtual format of the sport. A groundbreaking partnership with MyWhoosh, a virtual cycling app, will further expand the supertri E format, blending virtual and physical racing to engage athletes and fans in new ways as part of supertri’s commitment to entertainment and inspiration to drive its passion for the sport.
The supertri League series ended with a thrilling finale at the NEOM Beach Games in Saudi Arabia with Hayden Wilde and Georgia Taylor-Brown taking the season win for Crown Racing. supertri’s third year at this event saw significant growth, with triathlon viewership tripling in the region and participation rates surging. Community-focused activities included swim clinics and a Splash & Dash race, in collaboration with the Saudi Triathlon Federation.
Continuing to pave the way for the sport’s future growth, supertri announced the Rising Stars Initiative: A new partnership with Europe Triathlon supports junior athletes transitioning from amateur to professional racing, nurturing future Olympic champions.
supertri’s commitment to making a difference extended beyond racing. In Toulouse, world-class athletes visited Lycée Auzeville High School, introducing students to the excitement of triathlon and at each supertri League race swim and triathlon workshops empowered hundreds, promoting fitness and inclusivity.
One of the key aims for supertri is to have a positive impact on the community in which it hosts events. Athletes and supertri CEO and Co-Founder Michael D’hulst spent an afternoon at the Toulouse Oncopole cancer treatment hospital offering encouragement to patients and raised over $600,000 for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, demonstrating the power of sport to drive positive change.
In addition, supertri partnered for the first time with Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago to raise vital funds and even had former patient Adrian Lam take part in the race, which helped drive huge earned media coverage in the city including every local broadcaster being on site for the event.
Scheduled for 2025, the recently announced Toulouse Triathlon event will turn one of the league’s most popular races into a festival of sport for professionals and amateurs alike.
