Superstar Line-Up Ready To Begin Super League Triathlon’s $1.24m Championship Series In London

August 24, 2023

/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Super League Triathlon’s 2023 Championship Series gets underway in London this weekend with a stellar field of athletes competing for individual and team honours as well as a slice of the massive $1.24m prize pool.

West India Quay will play host to the stars of the sport on Sunday (August 27, 14:00 BST) with Olympic medallists such as Alex Yee, Jonny Brownlee, Katie Zaferes and Henri Schoeman racing alongside home favourites such as Sophie Coldwell and Beth Potter.

Yee and Potter, fresh off the back of winning the Paris Olympic Test event, form part of an all-British team, the RTP Sharks, hoping to give home fans something to cheer. They will be up against RTS Warriors, Santara Tech Eagles and last year’s winners, Bahrain Victorious Scorpions.

Some of the other big names taking part in London – which marks the start of Super League’s fifth anniversary Championship Series – include 2022 runner-up Taylor Spivey and 15-year-old sensation Fanni Szalai, who made global headlines with her incredible performances in Arena Games Triathlon earlier this year.

Michael D’hulst, Super League Triathlon Co-Founder and CEO, said: “It seems hard to believe that something which began life as a concept and a dream for three triathlon fanatics at a hotel lounge in London has become such an important part of the sport and a huge driving force for its future. Not only am I proud that together – Leonid Boguslavsky, Chris McCormack and I – have proven that triathlon can be a spectator sport, but we have given opportunities to so many young athletes and seen them thrive on the world stage as a result.

“This is our fifth anniversary but also the beginning of further expansion for us, including the growth of our Teams competition which adds a significant new dynamic to the Series and the development of the sport.”

The Individual Leaderboard and 2023 titles will be decided by an athlete’s two best results from the first three events (London, Toulouse, Malibu), plus their score from the Grand Final in NEOM.

All points from Individual Leaderboards count for the Teams Leaderboard, along with the discipline points awarded to the fastest swimmers, bikers and runners at each event. The Teams Leaderboard boasts a prize pot of $300,000, which helps to ensure the development of young athletes who are in the earlier stages of their careers and not yet earning significant prize money through individual racing. Athletes will again have the opportunity to earn Short Chutes – a shortcut on the course – for their Teams.

The Super League Triathlon 2023 Championship Series is:

August 27: London, UK

September 3: Toulouse, France

September 30: Malibu, USA

October 21: NEOM, Saudi Arabia
