San Diego Padres Launch 2020 Friar 5k

SAN DIEGO – August 17, 2020 – The San Diego Padres are teaming up with EnMotive, producers of the Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k series, to launch the first ever Friar 5k Virtual Race. All participants will receive a commemorative 2020 Friar 5k Goodie Bag featuring Padres-branded swag and themed 5k finishers medal, plus a baseball hat and more.

“While we miss having our fans with us at Petco Park, we are excited to host the Friar 5k and stay connected with them throughout the season while encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Erik Greupner, President of Business Operations for the Padres. “It is important now more than ever that we stay connected as a community. This virtual race provides a great incentive for fitness and an opportunity for families and fans to celebrate Padres baseball from a safe, social distance.”

The Friar 5k is a 3.1-mile virtual race in which participants have the option to run or walk the five-kilometer distance on the treadmill, sidewalk or trail. All adult and youth entrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, baseball diamond finishers medal, a new logo branded hat and custom race bib shipped directly to each participant.

Funds raised through the 5K will benefit the Padres Foundation’s Covid-19 relief efforts providing support for frontline workers and combating food insecurity in San Diego.
