RunSignup | GiveSignup released a new feature to streamline the process of deferring registrations from one year to another. With thousands of races cancelling throughout 2020, this tool simplifies logistics for the many events that offered deferrals as a resolution for participants. The feature makes the process of completing a deferral quick and easy for both the participant and the race, while ensuring minimal financial impact.

“In previous years, the number of deferrals was small enough that a manual process involving coupons or reserved entries was sufficient. But in 2020, with so many large-scale races offering deferrals, it quickly became apparent that a cleaner, more flexible process would help races to fulfill their promises to participants,” said RunSignup Founder and CEO Bob Bickel. “Throughout this crisis, we have been listening to the changing needs of our customers, and this is the latest way we can provide technology to make their businesses more efficient.”

The new deferral feature gives event organizers a few options to address their specific situation, offering solutions to that take into account an increase registration cost, price increases, or deferrals by participants who initially received a free or reduced-rate entry. Options include:

• Use Paid Amount For Deferred Registration, where the amount that a registrant paid for their deferred registration is the amount that is credited towards the new registration.
• New Event is Always Free, where all registrants that deferred can register for any event in the new race year for free.
• Set Creditable Amount for Previous Event, where the race organizer sets a specific amount that should be applied to the new registration (allowing even those with free or discounted initial registrations to access the same cost for the deferred registration).
