Rhode Races returns to Providence and debuts new courses

October 23, 2024

Locally owned and operated events company will once again produce marathon, half marathon and 5K in Rhode Island’s capital city

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Oct 23, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/  – With support from the City of Providence, Rhode Races will once again produce a signature running event in the capital city. The locally owned and operated running events company, which produces beloved races across the state that attract a loyal following of participants, will bring a marathon, half marathon and 5K back to the city. Registration is now open for the event, which will take place on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

“The City of Providence and its community has such a special place in our hearts. Producing this iconic event again feels like coming home,” said Susan Rancourt, co-founder of Rhode Races. “We’re excited for you all to experience our new race day features at the 2025 Providence Rhode Races event, and can’t wait to see all our local friends and visitors from all over the nation join in on the fun this coming May!”

“I am looking forward to welcoming runners and their families from across the country to this year’s race in Providence,” said Mayor Brett P. Smiley. “We are thrilled to welcome Rhode Races back to the capital city once again for an exciting, safe running event that thoughtfully takes into account our current traffic patterns. This will be a fun event for our neighbors and visitors alike to watch and participate in.”

The relaunch of Providence Rhode Races comes with a brand new USATF-certified, Boston Marathon Qualifier race courses and the opportunity for records to be set on the debut routes. All three events will start and finish at Bold Point Park, exploring four of Rhode Island’s historic neighborhoods, tree-lined streets, sweeping coastal views and working waterfronts. Rhode Races worked closely with the City of Providence to design a route that would limit the impact on traffic and move the course off of the Washington Bridge that it once traversed.

Those interested in taking part should register early, as the race will feature a boutique field size this year of 2500 spots.

Participants in the 2025 Providence Rhode Races will receive free high-quality photos, gender and race-specific tech shirts and race-specific medals at the finish line. Spectators can view their runner’s location and expected finish time thanks to live athlete tracking from the RaceJoy mobile app. Post-race, finishers and their supporters will enjoy a celebratory festival with music, food, drinks, vendors and a complimentary beer for those 21 years and older.
