Virtually climb Pikes Peak and circumnavigate the mountain
Colorado Springs, CO ———– The American Trail Running Association (ATRA) was founded in 1996 in Colorado Springs, a city located along the Front Range of Colorado at the base of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain. ATRA will celebrate its founding and honor this iconic landmark by offering a distance and elevation challenge. Participants can run, walk or hike and the FitRankings platform will track individual’s elevation gained and distance covered over a six-week period from December 31, 2020, to February 12, 2021.
“We are so excited for this fun, virtual challenge to get underway,” said Nancy Hobbs, ATRA executive director. “People near and far can participate and ATRA will provide inspirational messages as they journey to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak and rack up distance around the mountain. It is a great way to set goals heading into the New Year while celebrating ATRA’s 25th anniversary.”
Distance: Run, hike or walk the 63-mile Ring the Peak Trail which circumnavigates Pikes Peak. When you complete 63 miles, you’ll receive a congratulations message from the American Trail Running Association. Continue running, walking, or hiking and get additional congratulations messages at 126 miles (twice around the peak), 252 miles (four times around the peak), and 504 miles (eight times around the peak), over the six-week period.
Elevation: Run, hike or walk the 14,115’ elevation of Pikes Peak during the challenge. Each time you achieve 2000’ of elevation gain you’ll receive a congratulations message from the American Trail Running Association. You’ll reach the final congratulations when you reach the 14,115-foot summit!
