Registration Now Open for the 2024 YMCA Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan
August 28, 2024
More than 7,000 participants expected for this annual holiday tradition on Thursday, Nov. 28
PITTSBURGH (August 28, 2024) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 2024 YMCA Turkey Trot, presented by UPMC Health Plan, is now open for registration! This cherished Pittsburgh tradition encourages families to start their Thanksgiving Day with a healthy activity while supporting a vital cause. This year’s event features a 5-mile run, 5K, and a 1-mile fun run, with all proceeds benefiting efforts to combat food insecurity in our region.
“We’re excited to welcome the community once again to the 2024 Turkey Trot, a tradition that not only brings families together, but also makes a significant impact on those facing food insecurity in our region,” said Amy Kienle, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “The Turkey Trot is more than just a race; it’s an opportunity to connect with our neighbors, support vital resources, and come together as a community to make a difference.”
Supporting the Fight Against Food Insecurity
Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will once again support the YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Since March 2020, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has distributed approximately 120 tons of food in local neighborhoods, underscoring its commitment to addressing food insecurity through partnerships with the food bank and other local organizations.
Race Perks and Participation Options
All participants will receive a long-sleeve, hooded shirt and have the option to purchase a commemorative medal with their registration. Additionally, those taking on the “Double Gobble” challenge will receive a special gift for completing both the 5-mile and 5K events. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual option is also available, allowing participants to join the fun from anywhere.
Last year, more than 7,000 participants from 35 states, plus Canada and Great Britain, joined the event. Organizers hope to see even more families get moving this year, and to encourage participation, they are offering half-off registration for participants aged 5 to 18. Children under four can register for free.
“We are thrilled to partner with the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh once again to deliver this beloved holiday tradition,” said Troy Schooley, CEO of P3R. “This event invites families to kick off their Thanksgiving with activity while making a meaningful impact on our community.”
