Racing Returns to the Shenandoah River in the Canoe Capital of Virginia

December 31, 2024

December 31, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Warren Heritage Society and Adventure Enablers are excited to announce the return of canoe races to the Shenandoah River in the Canoe Capital of Virginia. It has been years since an event such as this took place in the Front Royal-Warren County, and on Saturday March 29, 2025, paddlers will hit the water once again at the Canoe Capital Paddle Palooza. The races will be held in the South Fork section adjacent to Eastham Park, providing a great place for racing and spectators to cheer on their friends and family.

The early season races kick off what is hoping to be a great year for paddling, fishing, and floating on the Shenandoah River which is a major destination for visitors. Though if you do not plan to race, there is still a great reason to come down to the park and encourage others to finish strong. There will be an area for music, activities, food and drinks for a festival atmosphere that is family and community focused.

“Padding the Shenandoah has been part of Warren County’s identity for many years.” said Joe Petty, Executive Director of Warren Heritage Society. “We are excited to partner with Adventure Enablers to bring competitive and fun paddling to the County while also providing a great venue for others to enjoy watching from the shoreline.”

Whether you are extremely competitive or just enjoy being on the water, the event program will feature both endurance and sprint opportunities for canoes and kayaks, with multiple categories for competitors to participate in.

“We have been hosting outdoor events in and around Front Royal for the past 14 years and have always envisioned a dedicated paddle event in the area,” said Mark Harris, owner and race director of Adventure Enablers. “The river is such an integral part of the community and spirit of the area, so it only made sense to organize an event like the Canoe Capital Paddle Palooza. Partnering with Joe and the team at the Warren Heritage Society creates a great connection to the community, and we hope that the event will become a highlight for many years to come.”
