Run to Honor supports Team Red, White & Blue and Panhandle Warrior Partnership
MOBILE, AL /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Nearly 1,700 runners from 20 states and Canada registered on opening day for the 8th Annual Publix Battleship 12K, a race to honor and support those who have served in the US military. The race is scheduled for November 19, 2023, and runners will start at 8:00 a.m. from the 26000 Bass Pro Dr. Starting Line in Spanish Fort, AL.
The Publix Battleship 12K was started in 2015 to pay tribute to those who defend our freedom and may not have received the heroes’ welcome those returning from WWII did. Every year, the event salutes a branch of the military. This year, the race will honor the U.S. Navy on the medal, race shirt, and Challenge Coin.
Runners will run through the beautiful Battleship Memorial Park, a historic site that is home to the USS Alabama Battleship, before ending ceremoniously alongside the USS Alabama where supporters will cheer them on, American flags in hand. Participants will be wearing either red or blue race numbers. Those runners and walkers who have a red bib have served or are currently serving our country.
“Members of the military don’t enlist for the accolades, but we want to be able to thank those brave men and women. The red bibs provide everyone an easy way to identify the military, past or present, and say thank you with a handshake, hug, or high five,” said Michael Wattigny, Marketing Director for FRESHJUNKIE Racing.
Runners must be able to complete the approximately 7.5-mile course in about two hours. Registration for the race is open, and early bird pricing of $35 is available until June 19th. Key partners for the 2023 event include Publix, Visit Mobile and the Mobile Sports Authority, Keesler Federal Credit Union, and many others.
