Run to Honor supports Team Red, White & Blue

MOBILE, AL. (November 15) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ -The 9th Annual Publix Battleship 12K will take place this upcoming Sunday in Mobile, AL, bringing together runners and walkers from all over the country and beyond to pay tribute to our service members. A highly anticipated Veterans Day Tradition, this year’s event has drawn the participation of 2700 runners from 28 states, New Zealand, and Canada. This year has drawn the biggest crowd within event history. The event is Sold Out this year, having drawn the largest crowd in event history and is the biggest single distance running event in the state of Alabama.

The Publix Battleship 12K was established to formally acknowledge and express gratitude to those who selflessly defend our nation’s liberty, ensuring that every member of the armed forces receives the recognition they duly deserve. This race is a way of saying thank you to every service member, recognizing their courage and commitment.

For many participants, the Publix Battleship 12K is more than just a race. It is a way to honor those who have served that have had a personal impact on their life. For Ace Esters, it is a way for him to honor His Great Uncle Ted, an original member of the Montford Point Marines, the first group of African American men to integrate the Marine Corps.

For Philip Webb, it is a way to honor Charlie McDaniel, a naval pilot who had “an illustrious naval aviation career as a fight pilot.” He would go on to become a highly decorated pilot, and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after 20 years of service.

On Sunday, participants will be distinguished by red or blue race numbers. Participants wearing red bibs have either served or are currently serving in our country’s military.

Participants can pick up their race packet Saturday November 16th at the Keesler Federal Credit Union Pre-Race Packet Pickup & Expo at National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico from 10 AM- 4 PM or race morning from 6 AM-7 AM near the start line at Spanish Fort Visitor Center. Participants are required to complete the approximately 7.5-mile course within a two-hour timeframe.

The charity partners this year are Team Red, White, & Blue and the Run Gulf Coast Foundation.
