PTO Asian Open 100km Race For Experienced Amateurs Sells Out
February 28, 2023
Singapore /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has announced that general registrations for its PTO Asian Open 100km race have sold out this weekend, having only gone on sale at 12pm Singapore Time on Thursday 23 February.
The places were snapped up by experienced amateur triathletes from Singapore as well as Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China and as far as the US.
“We are thrilled with the excitement and appetite from experienced amateurs in Asia and beyond to sign up and race this iconic Singapore course at the PTO Asian Open; that will take them on the same 100km race journey that our professional athletes will be also be tackling,” said PTO CEO Sam Renouf.
“We sensed there would be strong interest, but the speed with which general registrations have sold out is faster than we could have expected and a great testament to Singapore as a world class location for Triathlon. Given the demand, we are working closely with our partners on the ground in Singapore to create more race opportunities for amateur and everyday sports enthusiasts to get involved in August – and will release details for these opportunities as soon as possible.”
Course details on the 100km PTO Asian Open for professionals and experienced amateurs include:
· A 2km freshwater swim in Marina Bay – Competitors will set off in a rolling start format from the pontoon and large marker buoys will guide them around the Bay on a point-to-point swim. With a usual water temperature of 28°C, it’s a non-wetsuit swim.
· A mostly flat 80km closed roads bike course – The multi-lap course will start and finish at Marina Bay and take competitors on an action packed tour around the city, incorporating 700m of elevation. Full detail on the bike course will be announced in the coming weeks.
· An 18km run on paved surfaces – set against the world famous sights of the Gardens by the Bay and Singapore Flyer, the fast and flat run provides a scenic backdrop to complete the 100km journey.
There will be a waiting list set up for those who did not manage to buy a general registration in time and a limited number of 100km entries remain available through the PTO’s official travel partners from Asia, Australia, Europe and the US – details of which are available on the PTO Asian Open events page.
