PIKE ON A BIKE: Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Brothers to Ride Stationary Bike For 8,423 Minutes Straight in Honor of The 8,423 Cyclists and Pedestrians Killed Last Year By Drivers
October 21, 2024
BOULDER, CO, OCTOBER 21, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/— From November 2 to November 8, 2024, the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity will embark on a powerful mission: riding a stationary bike for 8,423 minutes straight. Each minute symbolizes one of the cyclists and pedestrians tragically killed by drivers in 2023. The ride begins on Saturday, November 2 at 5:05 PM and concludes on Friday, November 8 at 12:28 PM, the exact time of day Magnus White was struck and killed by a driver in 2023. This pledge-driven event aims to raise $100,000 to support The White Line Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving road safety through behavior change.
“This year our fraternity has chosen to partner with The White Line, remembering all of these 8,423 lives that are too often forgotten in a world where pedestrian and cyclist deaths are daily occurrences—We also ride to remember our dear friend and teammate to some, Magnus White, as his story and legacy act as an emissary around the world fighting for safer roads.” said Sebastian Edwards, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. “Our goal is to raise $100,000 and inspire immediate change in how drivers interact with cyclists and pedestrians, supporting The White Line’s mission to make roads safer for everyone—right now.”
“These young men came to us with this idea, and we couldn’t be prouder of their initiative,” said Michael and Jill White, Magnus’ parents, ”They’re in charge of putting on the event; from the event logo, securing the location, to the website and pledging platform. It’s impressive to see the drive these young men have in honor of victims of traffic violence.”
All proceeds from this event will directly benefit The White Line Foundation, supporting its efforts to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and promote immediate road safety solutions.

About Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity
Pi Kappa Alpha, also known as Pike, is a fraternity at the University of Colorado Boulder, and we are proud to be the Beta Upsilon chapter of the national organization. Our brotherhood is rooted in a commitment to leadership, service, and making a positive impact, and this mission is exemplified through our latest initiative, “Pike on a Bike.” In partnership with The White Line Foundation, this philanthropy event aims to raise $100,000 to support advocacy for cyclist and pedestrian safety, as well as legislative reforms. The idea became both feasible and impactful thanks to the dedication and size of our chapter, and it was further inspired by Pike brothers Gavin and Graydon Abel, who were close friends and teammates of Magnus White. Magnus’s legacy continues to motivate this joint initiative, driving our efforts to honor him and create lasting change in our community.
About The White Line
The White Line exists because Magnus White’s life was stolen by a reckless driver. We are the new voice for change, born from tragedy and fueled by urgency. Our mission is clear: honor Magnus’ legacy by transforming how drivers behave around cyclists and pedestrians. Behavior change is immediate and effective. We’re not asking nicely. We’re making change today.
We cannot afford to sit back and hope for slow policy changes or long-term infrastructure improvements. People are dying now, and we need to act now. No apologies. No more stolen lives. No more shattered families. We’re committed to making the roads safer today.
