Over 1,200 Runners Expected to Complete the 2024 SoCal Triple Crown at America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5K
May 28, 2024
Runners will wrap up this three-race challenge at AFC after competing in Carlsbad and GOVX San Diego earlier this year
SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5K is returning to San Diego on Aug. 18, where over 1,200 runners are poised to complete their SoCal Triple Crown challenge. These runners will have completed any distance offered in three of In Motion Events’ keystone races within the same calendar year. The series kicks off with the Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K, then the GOVX San Diego Half Marathon and 5K and concludes with the America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5K. Those who complete the series earn an extra medal at the final race to mark their notable accomplishment. Registration for America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5K is currently open.
The SoCal Triple Crown offers three distinct race courses and scenery, highlighting the best parts of San Diego County, and provides athletes with three unique and fun running experiences.
“The SoCal Triple Crown is a unique opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to challenge themselves during this year-long series,” said Christine Adams, CEO of In Motion Events. “Training for and completing these events takes time and commitment, and we love celebrating our series champions in the AFC Finish Line Festival, where they are awarded their extra bling along with other goodies just for them. We also hope our runners taking part in AFC for the first time get inspired to accept this unique challenge in 2025!”
The SoCal Triple Crown has made a mark on many athletes, including more than 300 who are SoCal Triple Crown streakers, meaning they completed the series in 2023, its inaugural year, and in 2024.
This year’s America’s Finest City Half Marathon and 5K is returning after the 2023 event was canceled on race eve due to a rescinded permit after the governor of California declared a state of emergency ahead of the unexpected impact of Tropical Storm Hillary. The race offered those affected by the cancellation an opportunity to participate in this year’s event, and to date, over 1,000 participants have utilized this chance to defer.
America’s Finest City Half Marathon offers participants a stunning tour of San Diego on foot. Starting at the Cabrillo National Monument before winding its way to Balboa Park, runners enjoy some of the best sights San Diego has to offer. The 5K course is a flat and fast loop within iconic Balboa Park. With its early start time, race day provides participants the unique opportunity to enjoy the sun rising over San Diego, and complete the race during cooler temperatures. Race weekend also features a one-day expo/packet pickup event on Aug. 17, where participants pick up their race packets and friends and family are invited to join along and make inspirational race signs, take part in photo ops and shop exciting products and services. Race weekend then concludes with the Finish Line Festival in Balboa Park. The Festival will include a DJ, vendor booths, refreshments and the Ballast Point beer garden for participants aged 21 and older with proper ID.
