Outspoken: Women in Triathlon Summit seeking nominations for the third annual Women in Triathlon Awards
August 17, 2021
Nominations are now open in a number of categories including Coach of the Year, Race Director of the Year and Outspoken Woman of the Year
Denver, Colorado, USA — August 17th, 2021. The producers of the Outspoken: Women in Triathlon Summit are back for a third year with the wildly popular Outspoken Women in Triathlon awards. The Women in Triathlon Awards Ceremony where winners will be announced will be held in Tempe, Arizona at 6pm, Saturday November 13th, 2021. The awards ceremony will be streamed live for both virtual attendees of the summit and other members of the triathlon community who would like to participate. The Awards Ceremony attracted an audience of over 7000 in 2020. As in previous years, the awards are a celebration of the many women who contribute daily to growing women’s inclusion and equity in the sport and are advocates for social change in small and large ways. The awards ceremony will be part of the Outspoken Summit that spans the weekend of November 12th-14th.
The awards ceremony keynote speaker will be Khadijah Diggs, the 2020 Outspoken Woman of the Year award winner. In 2020, Diggs launched The Diversity Infusion Syndicate. The Team seeks to diversify the landscape of triathlon by offering new and growing demographics a high quality, unique education about and introduction to the sport of triathlon; assisting with transitions to long course and/or competitive triathlon; and providing a method of coaching and grooming for under-represented demographic groups in the triathlon community, Muslim Women and Women of Color.
Summit co-founder and Ironman Champion, Dr. Sara Gross says: “Last year we saw the positive impact that women across the world are having on their triathlon communities. The Outspoken Awards is a place to celebrate these women, and acknowledge all of the ways in which they have positively affected our sport.”
Dr. Lisa Ingarfield, triathlon coach and Summit co-founder agrees: “The Outspoken Awards have become so popular precisely because there was very little recognition in the sport for women and the amazing work they do with their athletes and communities. We continue to observe a gap and want to make sure we are elevating women’s voices.”
Nominations can now be made in the following categories:

In 2020, the Outspoken Summit added the Pandemic Service Award to recognize women in triathlon who had done extraordinary things to serve their community during the pandemic. In 2021, this award was renamed the Triathlon Community Service Award to recognize women who are working hard in the broader triathlon community to enact social change. This new award pairs with The Bethany Rutledge Memorial Award which is intended to honor women making an impact in individual lives through one on one interaction and support.
