OUTLIER: COMMON Premieres at No Man’s Land Film Festival 2025: Stories of Community and Belonging
March 6, 2025

Afuera Productions reaches a major milestone as No Man’s Land Film Festival brings their third major production—celebrating stories beyond stoke—to a wider audience, launching the film’s year-long festival run.
March 6, 2025 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Afuera Productions is proud to announce the world premiere of OUTLIER: COMMON at the No Man’s Land Film Festival (NMLFF) on March 8, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Afuera Productions, as NMLFF showcases their third major production, bringing stories beyond stoke to a wider audience and kicking off the film’s year-long festival run.
The festival run for Episode 2 of the OUTLIER film series will highlight the best in documentary, mountain culture, and diverse storytelling. The Afuera team is thrilled to begin this journey by joining NMLFF’s lineup of socially relevant and artistically innovative films.
OUTLIER: COMMON takes viewers on a uniquely North American adventure—from British Columbia to the Tetons, red-rock Colorado to lush-green Central Oregon. The film is a visually stunning tribute to life in remote mountain regions and the unpredictable forces of Mother Nature.
The beauty of being an OUTLIER means that we bring powerful perspectives and experiences, which strengthens the community and emphasizes the universal truth that we all belong in the mountains. As a Guatemalan-Mexican-American who discovered the mountains later in life, this film connected with my deepest truths and the truths of so many of the youth we work with at SOS Outreach. This film serves as representation and inspiration for myself, the SOS community, and so many others.” says Anthony Martinez, Partnerships Manager for SOS Outreach, one of the OUTLIER Community Impact partners.
On an emotional backcountry journey into several mountain ranges of North America, a scientist, a filmmaker, and a disruptor share the deeply emotional, turbulent journeys of their lives—while pushing toward the very real summits that define them.
Each at their own personal crossroads, Nina Aragon, Vanessa Chavarriaga Posada, and Dani Reyes-Acosta seek new horizons in the mountains and their personal lives, their sisterhood guiding exploration of the mind, heart, body, and soul. Mountain weather and Mother Nature parallels the human experience, always: to understand the challenges these women face in the snow as much as their personal lives, and to experience the interconnectedness of people and place, joining a backcountry tour is a good place to start.
Their stories, told directly to the camera and while traveling through the majestic mountains of North America, are a roller coaster of emotions that provide lessons on tenacity, everyday joy, and solidarity—even when it feels like the world is crumbling.
Why Premiere OUTLIER: COMMON at NMLFF?
“We are at the forefront of a movement. According to the UN Women’s most recent report, at the current rate of progress, it will take just under 300 years for the world to achieve gender equality. The World Economic Forum projects another 100 years to close the global gender gap. Some people believe that feminism is no longer needed, but these statistics say otherwise,” shares NMLFF Executive Director Kathy Karlo.
Behind the camera, only 20% of directors are women.
On set, only 3% of crew members are Latina.
In media, only 24% of all sports news stories are written by women in the U.S.
Women are an untapped force of nature.
With a Latina-Filipina director and an all-Latina cast, OUTLIER: COMMON is a groundbreaking film that reshapes outdoor media.
“Growing up in Los Angeles and later moving to Fresno, California, I never saw women like me—Latina, Asian, or mixed—in action sports media. Now, as a professional mountain athlete and filmmaker, my goal is to show girls—and everyone else who’s ever felt caught in-between—that being an OUTLIER can be a joyous journey of self-love, connection to others, and reconnection to the Earth herself,” says OUTLIER Executive Producer and Director, Dani Reyes-Acosta.
Prior to the film premiere on March 8, Reyes-Acosta will join fellow filmmakers for the panel discussion, “FRAME BY FRAME: WOMEN SHAPING THE LENS.” In honor of International Women’s Day, moderator Dr. Beth Keefauver will lead a conversation with panelists Ellen Bradley, Dani Reyes-Acosta, Erin McGrady, and Janelle Dransfield, Women in Film + Photography Discussion, is open to the public and accessible via a sliding scale.
