Olympic gold medallist Cassandre Beaugrand focussed on winning French homecoming at supertri Toulouse
October 3, 2024
/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Olympic gold medallist Cassandre Beaugrand is under pressure to deliver a glorious homecoming in Toulouse as she chases her first supertri title.
Beaugrand delivered under a massive weight of expectation to win a home Olympic gold in Paris, and will be the star attraction for the huge crowds expected at supertri Toulouse on Sunday (October 6, 12pm local time), which will be her first race back in France since that career defining triumph.
The 27-year-old currently sits fourth in the supertri League standings, but with the best three results plus the Grand Final in NEOM to count, she knows victory in Toulouse would move her to within one point of leader Georgia Taylor-Brown and set up a winner takes all shootout to decide the title.
supertri Toulouse will also mark a homecoming for French Olympic bronze medallist Léo Bergere, and is the last professional race for USA ace Katie Zaferes, with the two-time supertri champion and double Olympic medallist announcing her imminent retirement earlier this week.
After three hard fought races to open the supertri League in Boston, Chicago and London, Toulouse is also a key battleground for the supertri Teams League. Just eight points separates table topping Crown Racing and second place Podium Racing. Stars & Stripes Racing climbed off the bottom in London meaning Brownlee Racing are under pressure to strike back.
supertri Toulouse has established itself as one of the most iconic races on the calendar, with a tight, technical and fast course lined by thousands of triathlon fanatics.
supertri is also a key part of the local community, and athletes will visit local schools, tour the Oncopole – the pioneering cancer hospital in the city – and meet patients, and host a whole day of activities in the centre of Toulouse.
