New Southern California Run Club Half Marathon Championships Announced

More than $5,000 added in 2x Masters Prize Purse; Runner's Circle Finish Line Festival presented by The Run Down to highlight 5th annual Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon set for Saturday, November 6

SAN DIEGO –Easy Day Sports, the organizers of the Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon & 5K, today announced a new partnership with The Run Down to host the first ever Southern California Run Club Championships in 2021. Known as San Diego’s most scenic half-marathons, the event will feature a new loop course that will start and finish along the waterfront in Mission Bay on Saturday, November 6.

“We hope you’ll join us to experience the Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon, one of the best 13.1-mile events in San Diego,” said race director Jamie Monroe. “In addition to the new run club championships, the event will also feature a new scenic loop course around Mission Bay, the perfect location for San Diego’s fastest age group runners to celebrate our running community.”

The Southern California Run Club Half Marathon Championships is a race within a race held as part of the Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon in San Diego. The event will debut with more than $5,000 in prize money for the top-finishers, with double (2x) the purse for age graded masters athletes.

“These new club championships are a great way to showcase San Diego’s incredible run club scene,” said Iman Wilkerson, founder of The Run Down. “I can’t wait to welcome all of San Diego’s run clubs and teams, no matter how big or small, to celebrate in the Runner’s Circle after what promises to be a fantastic event in November.”

The Thrive Half Marathon comprises three race categories over two days of activities, taking place the weekend of November 5-6, 2021 at Vacation Isle in San Diego. All race distances showcase one of Southern California’s most spectacular courses featuring waterfront views along every mile of the route. Prizes are awarded to participants in the half-marathon distance only.

Event weekend begins with a packet pick up and Thrive Health Expo on Friday, November 5th where all participants go to pick up their race number, t-shirt and swag bag. Each half-marathon participant receives an exclusive long sleeve technical tee.

Race day begins on Saturday at 7:15am with the half-marathon and 5k. Runners enjoy one of the most scenic race courses in Southern California with spectacular views along the route. The 5k course starts and finishes on Vacation Isle and runs along Mission Bay through the beautiful Crown Point. Event weekend concludes with a finish line festival and Thrive Health Expo, showcasing booths and vendors featuring the latest in nutrition, injury prevention and wellness information. All participants receive a finishers medal and post-race refreshments to top off a first-class running experience.
