Nearly 2,000 Runners Cross the Finish Line in Inaugural America’s Mile Presented by VisitPITTSBURGH

U.S. Olympic Medalist Clayton Murphy AND Jessica McGorty Win Elite Miles in thrilling finishes of 4:03 and 4:40, respectively
PITTSBURGH /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Nearly 2,000 participants ran their BEST. MILE. EVER. and crossed the finish line in the inaugural America’s Mile presented by VisitPITTSBURGH. The excitement of the 10-heat race continued until the end with thrilling finishes in the Men’s and Women’s Elites Miles, where Clayton Murphy and Jessica McGorty claimed victory, breaking the tape in fast times of 4 minutes, 3 seconds and 4:40, respectively.
The whopping prize purse of $34,200, the largest in the country for a road mile, attracted runners from more than 30 states and 7 countries. Nathan Sloan, 28, of Denver, Colo., and Cleo Boyd, 31, of Charlottesville, Va., triumphed in the Unstoppable Heat presented by Brooks Running, while AJ Kelley, 42, of Altoona, Pa., and Heather Cleary, 40, of Morgantown, W. Va., secured victory in the Masters Heat presented by UPMC Health Plan. The RUN Varsity Heat presented by P3R and Brooks Future Run showcased Clark Lahomia, 17, of Sewickley, Pa., and Hallie Simmons, 17, of Eglon, W. Va., as its champions, highlighting young competitive talent ages 14 to 19.
Mike’s Beer Bar not only served as the official Watch Party and Cheer Zone but also transformed into the ultimate post-race celebration hub. Participants aged 21 and above toasted their achievements with a complimentary Michelob Ultra at the party. The festivities were in full swing with a DJ spinning tracks, a 360° Photo Booth capturing memories, inflatable games adding to the fun, a giant watch screen for live updates, exciting giveaways, and much more, making it an unforgettable post-race bash.
All participants were randomly assigned one of the participating elites as part of the Elite Derby. Runners who were assigned Elite Heat champions Murphy or McGorty this year received a Brooks Running shoe bag as a prize.
The America’s Mile presented by VisitPITTSBURGH marks the second event in P3R’s Triple Crown Challenge, with the final event being the 2024 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler & 10K on Nov. 3.
