January 7, 2023

More than 10,000 already registered for the 2023 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events, scheduled for May 5-7; interested participants are encouraged to register before the price increases on Jan. 10

PITTSBURGH (Jan. 7, 2023) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – This past Saturday nearly 1,000 runners and MOVERS met at P3R headquarters on the North Shore for the annual Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend Training Event. More than 10,000 have already committed to the 2023 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events, scheduled for May 5-7.

“The energy of today’s event was incredible,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “We saw a record number of people of all fitness levels come out to start their 4-month training. Local running clubs as well as our event and charity partners were here to support runners as they start their journey to race weekend.”

Pacers from Steel City Road Runners, City of Bridges Run Club, Pittsburgh Rogue Runners, and Fleet Feet Pittsburgh Run Club led participants on 5K and 10K training runs at various pace options to accommodate runners with all levels of experience.

“My friend who has run the half marathon invited me to run,” said Erika Henry, who is training for her first race. “I’m not ready for the half marathon but decided to run the 5K this year. Today’s event was a lot of fun.”

For many, the Marathon Weekend Training Kick-off Event has become a tradition and great way to start the new year.

“When I moved to Pittsburgh in 2018, I knew I had to run my hometown race, and I’ve been participating in race weekend ever since,” said Missy Santucci, who is training for this year’s UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon. “I love running the bridges, and it’s such a great event.”
