September 23, 2024

More than 800 riders participated in Gran Fondo Maryland and Gran Fondo National Championships

(Gettysburg, PA – September 23, 2024) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – On September 15, 2024, more than 800 cyclists competed in the 13th Annual Gran Fondo Maryland and the 2024 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships, presented by Ourisman Automotive Group, in Frederick, Maryland. Twenty-seven national champions were crowned, ranging from 15-year-old Julie Raydo of Virginia and 82-year-old Durward Higgins from Tennessee.

Organized by Gran Fondo National Series, the Gran Fondo Maryland and Gran Fondo National Championships events featured a timed-segment competition format. Instead of competing from start-to-finish, competitors were only timed on distinct segments of the 30-, 60-, and 97-mile courses. Winners were determined by the lowest cumulative time for the course’s timed segments.

For the third year in a row, Andrew Knight (M45-49) of Marietta, GA was the fastest rider over the four timed segments, earning his third USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championship. Jill Patterson (W40-44) from Arlington, VA was the fastest woman, earning her third USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championship title.
