Colorado Company Joins Select Group Committed to Social and Environmental Impact
(BOULDER, CO – September 2020)– mountainFLOW, the innovative and award-winning Colorado company that has revolutionized the ski wax industry with its line of groundbreaking eco-friendly products, announced today that is now a certified B-Corporation, and that all of the company’s celebrated products are also certified bio-based by the USDA.
Launched in 2016 with the mission of providing a simple and eco-friendly way to improve the skiing experience and offer an alternative to environmentally harmful petroleum-based waxes, mountainFLOW specializes in skin waxes and plant-based glide waxes. Based in Carbondale, Colo., mountainFLOW claimed three awards at the 2020 Outdoor Retailer Snow Show in Denver on the strength of its line of Hot Wax, including the coveted Gear of the Show award from Outside.
The company’s certification of B-Corp status elevates mountainFLOW into a select group of companies legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. B-Corp status is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance, and other celebrated B-Corp companies include Patagonia, Kleen Kanteen and Allbirds.
USDA-certified bio-based products are derived from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials and provide an alternative to conventional petroleum derived products. Biobased products do not include food, feed, or fuel.
“We are super stoked on both the B-Corp and USDA certifications,” said mountainFLOW founder and CEO Peter Arlein. “The tenets of both certifications have always been a crucial part of our business plan and brand identity. However, to have these efforts validated by respected third-party organizations is really cool.”
In 2016, we formed mountainFLOW eco-wax with a straightforward mission: provide a simple and eco-friendly way to improve the skiing experience. We soon realized that eco-friendly waxes were a rare commodity in the ski industry, so we began testing plant-based waxes. Our hope is that the everyday skier will make the choice to use a product that works great and is more friendly to our mountain playgrounds.
