Michael Weiss (AUT) And Alice Alberts (USA) Take Titles At 2023 IRONMAN Maryland Triathlon, Part of The Vinfast IRONMAN North America Series

CAMBRIDGE, Md. (Sept. 16, 2023) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The historic town of Cambridge and Maryland’s Eastern Shore provided a spectacular backdrop for the return of the IRONMAN® Maryland triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series. Over 1,000 athletes from 46 U.S. states and 34 countries, regions and territories kicked off their IRONMAN journey throughout coastal Maryland and Dorchester County. For the first time in IRONMAN’s history, the two-woman team of announcers, Jill Blankenburg and Carissa Galloway, called in athletes across the finish line at this weekend’s IRONMAN Maryland triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series.
Some of triathlon’s top professional triathletes were on hand to compete in the IRONMAN Maryland triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series and for a share in the $100,000 USD prize purse. Michael Weiss (AUT) took the win in the men’s professional race with a finishing time of 06:49:47, while Alice Alberts (USA) topped the podium in the women’s professional race with a time of 09:07:31.

* Prior to the start of the IRONMAN Maryland triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series, IRONMAN and the local officials made the decision to shorten the swim course to 918 meters (0.57 miles), due to the water conditions in the Choptank River caused by the wind and tide in the region.
The 2023 IRONMAN Maryland race, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series led athletes along a swim, bike, and run through Cambridge and the surrounding areas. The swim took place in the Choptank River beginning at Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh. Once out of the water, athletes took off onto the 112-mile bike, a two-loop course that winds through Dorchester County and into the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Closing out their IRONMAN journey, athletes ran 26.2-miles their way around the region and through downtown Cambridge with an energetic finish at the historic Long Wharf Park at Great Marsh. The 2023 IRONMAN Maryland race, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series offered age-group qualifying slots to the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship with the women’s race taking place on September 22 in Nice, France and the men’s race taking place on October 26, 2024, in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
Looking froward
Following an announcement made on Wednesday, IRONMAN and the Dorchester County Department of Tourism, in conjunction with the County Council of Dorchester County, Commissioners of Cambridge, and Sheriff of Dorchester County, agreed to a five-year agreement to keep the IRONMAN Maryland triathlon and the IRONMAN 70.3® Eagleman triathlon in Dorchester County through 2028.
