July 29, 2024
/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Long Beach Legacy Triathlon is now one of the fastest growing triathlons in the US after supertri’s first year of operating the event saw entry numbers soar and more than $600,000 raised for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).
supertri are operating the event in California and partnering with USA Triathlon, the sport’s governing body in the US, to help grow the sport in the build-up to the LA Olympics in 2028. Long Beach is one of supertri’s mass participation events that offers entry to the sport for all abilities and sits alongside its professional brands with a mission to inspire and entertain.
Long Beach Legacy Triathlon was held on the course that will be used in LA 2028, and attracted more than 1,500 athletes and 2,000 spectators, significant growth from the previous year, and included an Olympic distance race for the first time. It was also the first time the Corporate Challenge event was held at Long Beach, which sees companies come together to participate and raise vital funds for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
supertri is proud of its partnership with CHLA, which has raised millions for pediatric cancer research. With more than $600,000 already committed from Long Beach and more funds still pouring in, it is an incredibly successful debut year for supertri and the event has won strong feedback from athletes, teams and more than 20 vendors and partners.
Scott Nilson, supertri General Manager NAM, said: “supertri is proud to have partnered with USA Triathlon to deliver the 2024 Legacy Long Beach Triathlon on the course that will host the Olympic triathlon events in 2028. We exceeded our registrations targets for our inaugural year running the event and we were even more pleased to see a very high percentage of first time triathletes which is a key initiative for us. Legacy Long Beach 2025 by supetri is open for registrations and we look forward to 2025.”
James Amatruda, MD, PhD, Interim Chief, Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, said: “The 2024 Long Beach Legacy Triathlon is a critical fundraiser to support groundbreaking pediatric cancer research in the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. With more than $19 million raised through annual triathlons since 2007, every participant helps propel our efforts to develop safer and more effective cancer therapies—and get the right treatment to children in need.”
