Lindsay takes the sprint finish and Arévalo a solo win at GFNY Paracas – Perú
June 12, 2024
The inaugural edition between desert and ocean was huge success with the riders
New York City /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Paracas hosted the first edition of the GFNY Paracas this past Sunday. The challenging race course was 116 km long with an elevation gain of 662 m.
The race started off fast with speeds hitting well over 50km/h. After hectic and aggressive racing, it was at km 10 that three riders got away, including Gonzalo Olivos (Peru’s national champion), Gonzalo Arévalo (runner up at nationals) and Erik Baumann (Team Milimétrica Specialized). They worked together well and quickly created a gap of over five minutes to the chase group.
However, later Baumann had to quit the race due to a crash and Olivos suffered a mechanical failure which set him back. Gonzalo Arévalo put in an amazing solo effort until the finish line taking the win in 2:59:10 ahead of Olivos and Muñoz.
The female race was decided in a tight sprint where Caroline Lindsay (Team GFNY) took the win in 03:19:22 ahead of Lucy Machuca and Mirena Pun who rounded out the all Peruvian podium.
Next up on the GFNY calendar is the second edition of GFNY Pennsylvania York and the fourth edition of GFNY La Vaujany which will take place this Sunday, June 16, 2024.
