Las Vegas Marathon Goes All In With 6,300 Runners At Inaugural Event

Las Vegas locals swept the top spots for the 7.02 mile race, and took first place in the men’s marathon and women’s half marathon

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Las Vegas Marathon, the premier and city-signature road running event for the city of Las Vegas, debuted on Nov. 3 with over 6,300 runners taking part. The inaugural event brought a premier full marathon distance experience back to the city. The race also featured a half marathon and 7.02-mile race spotlighting the local 702 Las Vegas area code. Highlights from race day included top finishes from Vegas locals, a proclamation of a special holiday by Mayor Carolyn Goodman, a Finish Festival at Fremont Street and the Official Post-Race Party presented by Meow Wolf. Full results are now available online.

Local Las Vegas runners represented five of the nine first-place finishers. With the event being in its inaugural year, all top times set the course standards that elite runners will look to beat in future editions.

Las Vegas resident JJ Santana, the men’s marathon champion and overall first-place finisher, completed the 26.2 miles in 2:25:02. He was followed by the men’s marathon second-place finisher Ishmael Anguiano and third-place finisher Cody Poskin. The women’s marathon course was led by Ashley Paulson, who finished at 2:45:09. The second and third-place finishers for the women’s marathon were Las Vegas resident Josie Riggs and Jacquie Cooke. The top wheelchair division finisher in the marathon was Emmaniel Ortega with a time of 3:25:42. Steven Bugarin claimed first in the marathon’s gender-expansive division with a time of 3:01:58, followed by second and third-place finishers Carlos Pinto and Lowell Wilkinson.

The men’s half marathon division was led by Paul Soriano, who finished with a time of 1:14:07, while Las Vegas resident Ellie Stevens led the women’s division with a time of 1:14:23. Logan Garnanez, the non-binary division leader completed the course with a time of 1:48:09. The top wheelchair division participant in the half marathon was Eric Eblen with a time of 1:32:09.

First-place finishers of the men’s, women’s and gender-expansive divisions for the 7.02-mile race were all from Las Vegas! They included men’s winner Mason Tope with a time of 35:06, Katarina Tadich who finished in 42:53 and Ricardo Castillo who led the gender-expansive division with a time of 1:07:43.

The fast course took runners on a journey through scenic and iconic areas of the city, including a marathon start line at Red Rock Canyon, a tour through Downtown Summerlin, Symphony Park, 18b Arts District, Las Vegas Boulevard and a finish at Fremont Street Experience. The event also featured a Finish Festival on Fremont Street that was open to spectators and participants. The festival featured a beer garden, food and beverage offerings, entertainment, photo opportunities, runner recovery and more. Runners were able to retrieve their personal items at the finish festival from the Amazon Gear Check ZoneMeow Wolf also offered participants the opportunity to experience the Official Post-Race Party presented by Meow Wolf in their immersive art exhibit, Omega Mart.
