August 8, 2024

Healdsburg, CA /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Lake Sonoma 100 Mile “Sufferfest” is here for the first time, adding a gnarly twist to the legacy of the Lake Sonoma 50 Mile and 100K races. Set against the rugged, breathtaking backdrop of Lake Sonoma, this brutal endurance race is not just a test of your grit and guts, but a celebration of community, inclusivity and a salute to our local heroes.

Elevating Women Runners:
This year’s race is all about celebrating badass women. With several women serving as race directors, the Lake Sonoma 100-mile race is creating a platform for super awesome, hardcore women to shine and inspire future generations of runners.

To further elevate women in the sport, we are calling on all women race directors to sign up and encourage others to join as well. Race Directors (both men and women) will receive 50% off the cost of registration. By fostering a network of supportive and motivated women, we aim to break down barriers and expand the presence of women in ultra-running. It’s truly badass to see women taking on this incredibly grueling event, proving their resilience and strength on the absolute toughest of courses.

We are also offering mentorship opportunities, allowing female participants to connect with seasoned women athletes who can provide guidance, support, and inspiration. Special awards and recognition will be given to outstanding female runners, highlighting their achievements and contributions to the sport.

Among our esteemed race directors is Thomas Nolan, a former firefighter with the Ukonom Hotshots and a veteran of the US Forest Service on the Six Rivers National Forest. His experience in both firefighting and forest service brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to our events. His involvement underscores our deep respect and support for the brave men and women who protect our communities. In recognition of their service, we are setting up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to sponsor firefighters in the race. Your contributions will help equip and fund our firefighters as they continue to safeguard our homes and lives.

Partnering with UltraSignup:
The Lake Sonoma 100 Mile is teaming up with UltraSignup to elevate its race experience. Under the guidance of co-CEO David Callahan, UltraSignup is set to enhance the event with its top-notch race management and registration services. This partnership ensures that the Lake Sonoma 100 Mile will benefit from more efficient operations, improved participant engagement, and an overall enhanced race experience, solidifying its status as a premier ultramarathon event.

Legendary Tropical John Medinger’s Involvement:
We are thrilled to announce that the founder of the Lake Sonoma 50, former publisher and owner of Ultra Runner Magazine as well as the former President of Western States Endurance Race, John Medinger will be heavily involved in this year’s race. His presence brings unparalleled excitement and inspiration to the event, and we look forward to the unique energy and expertise he will contribute to the Lake Sonoma 100 Miler “Sufferfest”.

Supporting Vineyard Workers:
In line with our commitment to giving back to the community, proceeds from the Lake Sonoma 100 Mile race will go to the Children of Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund. This scholarship aims to support the education and advancement of the hardworking individuals who are the backbone of our community here in wine country. By participating in or supporting this race, you are directly contributing to the betterment of their lives and futures.
