May 15, 2024

Over 20 West Coast collegiate teams invited to join the oldest triathlon series in the world

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The LA Tri-Series is in the midst of its 42nd consecutive event, and has recently announced the addition of the IronBruin Collegiate Division into its Fall Classic event, taking place on Oct. 6. The Fall Classic is the second of three events that make up the LA Tri-Series, the oldest triathlon series in the world.

The collegiate portion will be a Sprint Race including a 1K swim, 24K bike ride and 5K run, and is exclusively available to participants who are registered college students. Collegiate division participants must register via the collegiate option during registration and choose their school from the drop-down menu. The race will start with two waves, one male and one female, each consisting of up to 100 athletes. Some of the collegiate teams that will be joining the event include UCLA, UC Berkeley, Stanford, USC and San Diego State University.

“We’re excited to be welcoming so many incredible athletes to this year’s Fall Classic including student athletes who are the future of the sport of triathlon,” said Mike Bone, President and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, which produces the LA Tri-Series. “We are always looking for ways to support the younger generations interested in multi-sport events, and hope that this partnership will help inspire more to join in!”

“The UCLA Triathlon Team is excited to invite the teams in our conference to such a scenic and beginner friendly venue for our race this year,” said the IronBruin team. “It will be the only conference race, other than our regional championships, that offers a lake swim.”

The Fall Classic will also include five other races for non-collegiate athletes to choose from, which include the following options:

  • Super Sprint Triathlon: 300M swim, 12K bike ride and 5K run
  • Super Sprint AquaBike: 300M swim, 12K bike ride
  • Championship Triathlon: 1K swim, 34K bike ride and 10K run
  • Championship AquaBike: 1K swim, 34K bike ride
  • Championship – Duathlon:5K run, 34K bike ride and 10K run

The LA Tri-Series has taken place in Bonelli Park since its inaugural event. This location provides new triathletes an opportunity to participate in an open-water swim in a safe environment, to cycle on a safe route with little traffic and to run a well-supported, scenic course. For those with more background in the sport, the course’s elements can adapt to the specific goals of participants at all experience levels.

The Turkey Tri, the third and final event of the LA Tri Series, will be taking place on Nov. 24. Registration is currently open. For more information about the LA Tri-Series, visit www.trievents.com and follow the event on Facebook and Instagram.
