Ironman Announces New Pregnancy and Parenthood Policy for Age-Groupers

July 22, 2024

Today Ironman changed a policy would now allow athletes entry to the same event for up to two years if a triathlete registered for one of their races and then became pregnant—a response, in part, to an article published by Triathlete in June, Ironman said.

The new policy touches more than simply a race registration deferral for pregnant athletes, it also addresses family situations like adoption, surrogacy, and paternity.

For parents pursuing adoption or birthing via surrogacy, Ironman is allowing a one-year deferral for the same registered event for the following year (as opposed to two years for pregnancy), provided the athlete provides proof up to three months before race day. Triathlete
