Iowa’s Matt Hanson (USA) And Utah’s Skye Moench (USA) Claim Victories at the 2022 Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines Triathlon

- Over 1,000 athletes converged in Des Moines for Iowa’s first full-distance IRONMAN triathlon
DES MOINES, Iowa (June 12, 2022) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Central Iowa played host to the 2022 Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines triathlon on Sunday, June 12. Over 1,000 athletes, including professionals and age-group athletes took on streets of Des Moines for the first full-distance IRONMAN triathlon hosted in Iowa’s capital city. The event saw Matt Hanson (USA), who hails from Storm Lake, Iowa, take the overall victory and earn his fourth North American Championship title with a finishing time of 7:56:48. In the women’s professional race, it was Utah’s Skye Moench (USA) who topped the podium with a dominating performance and a time of 8:51:44, over 20 minutes ahead of the competition. The 2022 Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines triathlon also featured live event coverage that was on IRONMAN Now on Facebook Watch, YouTube and Twitch.
In the professional men’s race, Andre Lopes (BRA) would follow Hanson with an impressive sub eight-hour performance in a time of 7:59:27. Veteran triathlete Tim O’Donnell (USA) rounded out the podium in his return to full-distance IRONMAN racing with a time of 8:10:07. In the professional women’s race, Jen Annett (CAN) took second behind Moench with an overall time of 9:11:43 while Kelly Fillnow (USA) finished in third with a time of 9:20:07.

The 2022 Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines triathlon saw athletes take on a 140.6-mile journey throughout Des Moines and its surrounding areas. Athletes ranging in age from 18 to 81 competed in the 2022 Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines. The race began with a 2.4-mile swim in Grays Lake before taking athletes on a 112-mile bike through rural West Des Moines, Dallas, and Madison Counties. The last leg of the race took athletes on a 26.2-mile running tour through scenic downtown Des Moines, where crowds of spectators line the streets for an unforgettable finish. The event offered 60 age-group qualifying slots to the 2022 Supersapiens IRONMAN World Championship taking place in Kailua-Kona Hawai`i on Oct. 6 & 8, 2022.
