Introducing the Colorado Classic Virtual QOM Jersey Challenge
October 2, 2020
Denver, Colo. (October 2, 2020)— The Colorado Classic #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign is off to a roaring start with thousands of people already joining the competition to win signed race jerseys from the 2019 event and other prizes.
Launched at the start of September, the #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign aims to inspire cyclists everywhere to ride with the spirit of the Colorado Classic throughout the fall and winter months through monthly competitions.
The first competition —the 2020 Virtual Badass Jersey— was held in conjunction with national “Bike to Wherever Week” in September, and in partnership with Way to Go, the Downtown Denver Partnership and Gates Corporation.
Participants vied not only for a 2019 Colorado Classic jersey signed by Brazilian cyclist Flavia Oliveira, but also for a Priority Bicycles Brilliant L Train Bicycle equipped with a Gates Carbon Drive belt system. To win, participants had to pledge to ride to “wherever” during the week of Sept 21-25, while also sharing their story on social media. Almost 3000 people took the pledge while others took to social media to share their how they use the bike to get active or simply, to get around.
There were people biking to work, to school with their kids, to the dentist, past a field of buffalo, practicing drops on a MTB after a 12-hour work shift, getting up at 3:45 am to slam out some work before kids and carpools so they could squeeze in a ride later, and more. Choosing the recipient of the jersey was no easy task.
In the end the Colorado Classic is honored to award the 2020 Virtual Badass title and signed jersey to Kelley S. of Littleton, Colo., for her infectious enthusiasm and dedication. The Gates Carbon Drive equipped Priority bicycle went to Patrick W of Denver, Colo., who commutes an impressive 200 days per year and is looking forward to upgrading his current commuter bike with this new Priority Brilliant L Train.
“We are thrilled with the participation we had during Bike to Wherever Week,” said Allison Redmon, Way to Go Manager. “Even though COVID-19 has caused a lot of uncertainty and stress this year, it was nice to highlight a silver lining like biking. We hope that Bike to Wherever Week demonstrated how fun and easy ditching the car and biking to, well, wherever can be!”
The Colorado Classic hopes this momentum will carry onto the next competition: the 2020 Virtual QOM Jersey.
Taking place between October 15th and October 21st, this competition is for the mountain goats. Participants will be asked to join the Colorado Classic Strava Group, hop on their bikes and get climbing! The first cyclist to ride 13,668 feet in elevation (the total amount of feet climbed during the 2019 event) during that week-long climbing window wins a signed 2019 QOM Jersey signed by track and time trial superstar, Chloe Dygert. A second signed jersey will be awarded to the cyclist who records the most elevation gain during the Climbing Window.
The #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign is the latest initiative in a series of ways the organizers behind the Colorado Classic have kept the cycling world engaged during this unusual and trying year; while furthering their mission be more than a race, and act as a movement to inspire and empower women of all ages to break the mold, and fight for their goals.
