COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The inaugural Endurance Exchange triathlon industry conference is headed to Tempe, Arizona, this week, with more than 500 race directors, coaches, retailers and others in the multisport community scheduled to attend. The event, a collaboration between USA Triathlon and Triathlon Business International (TBI), is set for Thursday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 25, at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium.
USA Triathlon and TBI created Endurance Exchange in an effort to grow, inspire and support the triathlon community by collaboratively hosting the nation’s largest experiential triathlon summit where everyone within the multisport community can learn; share best practices, trends and innovations; network; and collaborate.
The event combines several pre-existing industry conferences into one. It replaces the TBI Annual Conference, which was originally scheduled for the same dates in Tempe, and also encompasses the USA Triathlon Race Director Summit and Art & Science of Triathlon International Coaching Symposium.
The conference will feature a dynamic lineup of expert presenters from across the multisport community, with content specific to coaches, race directors and retailers along with general sessions relevant to the entire industry. Eric Byrnes, former MLB outfielder and current MLB Network analyst, and Pasquale Romano, President and CEO of ChargePoint — both avid triathletes — will present the keynotes. The complete schedule is available at enduranceexchange.com/event-schedule.
Dynamic group workouts will be offered each morning of Endurance Exchange, including group runs led by Newton Running, triathlete-specific sessions led by Pilates for Sports, strength training led by ASU’s strength and conditioning staff, a swim workout led by USA Triathlon Level II certified coach Kris Swarthout and outdoor cycling rides led by USA Triathlon’s Project Podium squad.
Two-time U.S. Olympic steeplechaser Anthony Famiglietti — also known as “Fam” — will be doing a two-mile treadmill run for time at the Endurance Exchange Performance Zone on Friday 12:30 p.m. MST. Runners around the world can cheer him on in real-time as part of a virtual group run on the Zwift platform.
Race directors, coaches and officials in attendance at Endurance Exchange will gain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to further their professional development, and USA Triathlon Race Director and Coaching certifications and recertifications will be offered in Tempe in the lead-up to the event from Jan. 21-22.
Registration for the conference is now closed. Tickets are still available for $100 for “A Celebration of Sport — An Evening to Encourage, Inspire and Ignite — Benefiting the USA Triathlon Foundation,” which takes place Friday evening at 7 p.m. and includes the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The 10th Induction Class of the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame includes Dick and Rick Hoyt (Holland, Mass.), Cherie Gruenfeld (Cathedral City, Calif.) and Mike Plant (Escondido, Calif.; posthumous).

Also taking place in Tempe in conjunction with Endurance Exchange are USA Triathlon’s Partner Summit and a USA Triathlon Foundation Fantasy Camp with Project Podium.
E2 Scholarship Program
USA Triathlon and TBI partnered to offer eight scholarships to Endurance Exchange to foster diversity and bring varied perspectives to the event, while encouraging the participation of individuals who may not otherwise have been able to attend.
Scholarship recipients include: Deborah Armstrong (Castle Rock, Colo.; coach), Janie Crowl (Salem, Ohio; race director), Remigia Davis (Washington, D.C.; club administrator), Jenna Horner (Washington, D.C.; club administrator, student), Noah Lam (Stony Brook, N.Y.; coach, club administrator), Michael Shipp (Washington, D.C.; coach, student), Anne Torrez (Exeter, N.H.; coach, club administrator) and Rachael Weiker (Minneapolis, Minn.; race director). The majority have never attended a multisport industry conference.
“As a coach, one of my biggest missions is to bring more people into the sport — to make it a welcoming and accessible world to be a part of, and to make it a long-term lifestyle for people,” said Torrez, who leads the women’s triathlon club SHECoast Multisport in Exeter, New Hampshire. “I know that attending Endurance Exchange will help not only my knowledge as a coach and athlete, but it will provide opportunities to collaborate with others who are doing amazing things, to ultimately grow the sport.”
