iFit Connected Fitness Creates Tokyo Marathon Challenge in Response to Race Cancellation Due to Coronavirus

February 27, 2020

LOGAN, Utah — When the Tokyo Marathon was canceled for all non-professional runners in an attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus, naturally, 38,000 registered runners were disappointed. In response, iFit created a Tokyo Marathon challenge.

Discouraged marathon registrants and running enthusiasts alike are able to virtually run the Tokyo Marathon route using iFit’s Google Maps™ feature. In an exclusive partnership with Google, iFit displays Street View™ streaming images as users run on their NordicTrack and ProForm treadmills, incline trainers and ellipticals, all of which feature iFit interactive technology. Then, iFit’s proprietary connected fitness automatically adjusts the machines’ incline and decline in perfect sync with the actual terrain of the marathon course, creating a realistic virtual run.

The iFit Google Maps feature allows members to trace a route anywhere in the world and run that route watching Street View images.

“We quickly created the iFit marathon challenge once we heard the news from Tokyo,” said Chase Watterson, Marketing Director of iFit. “Our iFit members have the option to schedule the race in five segments (each 5.25 miles) or to schedule the entire 26.2-mile course in one workout.”

The Tokyo Marathon Challenge is now available to iFit members around the world through March 9, 2020, and will be easily accessed from the user’s home screen.

This marathon challenge is among a wide range of benefits for iFit subscribers. Members also enjoy personalized training from top trainers in the industry, streamed virtually onto their machines. With Global Workouts that are filmed in exotic locations around the world, along with thrilling boutique-style Studio Classes, consumers enjoy workout variety and motivation throughout their fitness journeys. Memberships are affordable, starting at just $15 per month.
