April 10, 2025

At the 52nd edition, Taylor Roe runs World Best; race champions also earned automatic berths to compete for the $20,000 PRRO Super Bonus at the 28th PRRO Championship hosted by the Boilermaker 15K on July 13; $100,100 prize purse with $42,600 in USA Championship money awarded

WASHINGTON, DC (April 10, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/  – At the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, on a cloudy Sunday morning, April 6, in the nation’s capital, the weather was cool, but the racing was record-setting hot. At the 2024-25 PRRO Circuit fourth stop, Charles Hicks from Eugene, OR and Taylor Roe from Raleigh, NC won their respective races in course record times of 45 minutes, 14 seconds and 49:53. Roe’s time was a World Best (no official 10 Mile World Record category exists per World Athletics) in a women-only event as well the U.S. women-only 10 Mile record (10 Miles is an official record distance recognized by USA Track & Field). En route, the rising star also set national women-only records at 10K (30:56) and 15K (46:24).

The Cherry Blossom champions also earned automatic eligibility to compete for the $20,000 PRRO Super Bonus at the 28th PRRO Championship hosted by the Boilermaker 15K on Sunday, July 13, 2025 in Utica, NY.

The event, for the third straight year, served as the USATF Championships, and winning national titles were Hicks and Roe. Three-time defending U.S. 10 Mile champion Hillary Bor finished 4th in 45:30 and defending race champion Wesley Kiptoo was 5th (45:55).

In the men’s race, Hicks battled Alex Maier to the line with Maier, the 2025 USA Half Marathon champion, finishing national runner-up, one second back in 45:15, setting a U.S. record. Hicks, 23, who grew up in Jacksonville, FL and has dual USA-British citizenship, is eligible to compete in USA Championships, but because he has competed internationally for Great Britain, he cannot set a U.S. record per USATF rules.

Roe, 24, also the 2025 USA Half Marathon champion, was the runaway, unchallenged winner of the women’s race, finishing more than a minute ahead of Adane Anmaw of Ethiopia who ran 51:00. Emma Grace Hurley took third and national runner-up in 51:04; both were also under the previous course record of 51:14 set last year by Sarah Chelangat of Uganda.

At the 52nd edition, the top finishers took home $100,100 ($32,000 in the international division, $48,600 in the U.S. division and record & time bonus incentives totaling $19,500). Roe pocketed a bountiful $30,000 in prize and bonus money: $10,000 USA title, $6000 race win, $1000 sub-52:00, $5000 world best, $5000 U.S. record and $3000 event record, and Hicks earned a cool $20,000: $10,000 USA title, $6000 race win, $1000 sub-46:00 and $3000 event record.

In addition, PRRO recently announced a new points system in which the 2-10 finishers at the five Circuit events like Cherry Blossom earn points with the top 5 scorers overall before the PRRO Championship also qualifying to compete for the Super Bonus. Points standings can be found HERE.

“The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile again delivered world class racing with an exciting men’s finish, U.S. titles and records, two automatic $20,000 PRRO Super Bonus qualifiers for the upcoming PRRO Championship, Super Bonus points for 2-10 finishers, and the capstone, Taylor Roe’s incredible World Best performance,” said PRRO President Don Kardong.

An event record 19,631 finishers covered the 10 Mile course in the nation’s capital on a flat, fast course that passes by all the major DC monuments and the legendary Japanese cherry trees in the annual “Runner’s Rite of Spring”. In addition, on Saturday, April 5, a record 7,224 finished the accompanying 5K, which was voted the Best 5K in the country by USA Today poll for 2023 and 2025. Both races were sold-out.
