July 30, 2024
Cycling Time Trials (CTT) is calling on all riders looking to race at their 2024 Closed Circuit Time Trial Championships to get their entries in now. Riders should expect a “festival of cycling” for riders of all ages and abilities, combining a day of exhilarating elite competition and family-friendly fun in a traffic-free environment.
30th July 2024/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Entries to the Cycling Time Trials (RTTC) Closed Circuit Championships closes at midnight on Tuesday 30th July, so riders looking to race the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit should get their names down now. The event, on Sunday 11 August, is perfect for cyclists of all levels; from elite riders looking to contest for the top step on the podium, through to junior competitors tackling their first ever cycling event and regular cyclists uncertain about racing on open roads.
Goodwood Motor Circuit provides a thrilling experience for cyclists, and the CTT team are excited to use it as a venue for the Closed Circuit Championships for the first time in the history of the event. Nestled amidst the picturesque countryside of West Sussex, the circuit is steeped in history and tradition. Originally constructed in 1948, it has played host to countless thrilling motorsport events over the decades, earning a reputation as one of the most iconic racing circuits in the world, with its open layout and fast, flowing corners.
“We are delighted to host the Closed Circuit Championships at the prestigious Goodwood Motor Circuit, providing cyclists with a unique and thrilling racing experience,” said David Collard-Berry, Race Director for the RTTC Closed Circuit Championships.
“All those that have come to Goodwood Motor Circuit are taken by how sociable it is. It may not have the “traditional Village Hall HQ” but somehow it offers more. Everyone is close to the circuit, the paddock is in the middle & spectators can watch the action from the gallery above the pit lane. Riders will be delighted with how smooth the tarmac is, and the lack of traffic obviously makes it a perfect environment for anyone new to the sport. Basically, Goodwood offers stress-free time trialling for all the family.”
With races tailored to suit various age groups and skill levels, the event ensures that all participants have the opportunity to showcase their talents and passion for the sport, with paracycling and youth categories also available for entry.
In addition to traditional racing categories, the event will introduce an exciting ‘fastest lap’ competition. Cyclists will have the chance to test their speed and skill as they look to complete the fastest single circuit of the course. Prizes will be awarded to the riders with the quickest lap times, adding an extra element of excitement and competition to the event.
“The fastest lap competition adds a new dimension to the Championships and promises to be a highlight of the day for many” added Andrea Parish, Chair of Cycling Time Trials. “We remain absolutely committed to driving participation in the sport of time trialling and in making it as fun, appealing and accessible as we possibly can. Events like the Closed Circuit Championships provide a platform for cyclists of all abilities to come together and experience the thrill of competitive racing, on an iconic race track at that. I’m really hoping the event serves as an introduction to our brilliant sport for many!”
In addition to the Closed Circuit Championships, Cycling Time Trials organises a variety of other national championship events throughout the year. These include the Individual Time Trial Championships, Team Time Trial Championships, Hill Climb Championships, and more. Each event offers cyclists the opportunity to compete across various categories, and to race alongside the fastest cyclists in the country, whatever their own personal goal might be. All Champions will be recognised for their achievements at the coveted CTT Champions Luncheon, which is to be hosted in the Midlands on Saturday 16th November 2024.

Editors’ Notes
Cycling Time Trials is the National Governing Body for time trials in England, Scotland and Wales.
Events on flattish main roads and following a more-or-less “out and home” pattern are in the majority but with the increasing level of traffic there has been a tendency for more events of a so called “sporting” nature to take place. These are often on hillier roads and usually follow circuit type courses so that the route can be followed by using only left turns. This means, the problems associated with the long spear-point intersections of dual carriageway roads can be avoided.
The idea of individuals riding “against the clock” and ignoring any other rider who they catch or who catches them still holds true for the majority of events but there are also events which are for teams of two, three or four riders who ride together known as Team Time Trials – shortened to 2up/3up/4up TTTs.
All open events are advertised in the annual ‘CTT handbook’ and via the website. To ride in any of them you need to be a member of a club affiliated to Cycling Time Trials. There are at least that number again of club events (which are generally not advertised) and if you approach the club promoting one of them you could get a ride. For riders not in clubs affiliated to CTT, there are ‘come and try it’ club time trials that they can compete in.
