Gannet Ventures Launched Inaugural American Runs Virtual 5K
July 30, 2020
Aims to Raise Money for COVID-19 Recovery Efforts
McLean, VA – (July 30, 2020) – Gannett Ventures, part of Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI), announced the launch of the America Runs Virtual 5K presented by USA TODAY. The event is now open for registration to runners in all 50 states and will be promoted nationally by Gannett’s portfolio of local news outlets across the country.
America Runs 5K is a virtual running event that celebrates the millions of Americans who are making the choice to remain focused and resilient, even in these current times of extreme adversity. Now more than ever, we must unite as a country and run together, even at a distance.
Join us for the America Runs virtual 5k event and help raise funds for COVID-19 recovery efforts across America. We partnered with the Gannett Foundation to donate 100% of all money raised to COVID-19 recovery funds in all 50 states.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the tremendous amount of support from our official sponsors Brooks, Horizon, Sacred, Addaday, GU, Pro Compression, Fleet Feet Inc, and the local Gannett media markets across the country; to be part of a much needed, uplifting story about improving physical and mental health in America,” said John Smith, VP of Gannett Ventures Partnerships.
Each participant will receive a virtual race kit that includes a tech tee, trucker hat, water bottle, custom medal, and personalized race bib. Register runners will be able to upload their results and photos, download a finisher certificate and even see where they stand on the leaderboard like they would at a physical event powered by the EnMotive Race Day Experience platform. The race is supported by USA TODAY and our official sponsors who have joined Gannett Ventures in this initiative to recognize and celebrate millions of Americans through health and fitness, while also giving back to local communities. The race was launched in an effort to restore the feeling of excitement and togetherness with running, at a time when those feelings have abruptly been taken away.
Registration is opened from July 27th through September 30th. For more information, please visit www.americaruns.com.
