FRESHJUNKIE Racing launches Gulf Coast Challenge

Great way to stay motivated and engaged while training through the hot summer months.

As the COVID-19 pandemic caused numerous events to be cancelled or postponed, active people have looked for an outlet for their efforts. The Gulf Coast Challenge hopes to fill that need for thousands of participants who might normally be participating in races every weekend. In addition, the pandemic has encouraged a lot of people to become more active, and the number of people walking, jogging, running and biking has been steadily increasing since March. The Gulf Coast Challenge is the perfect way to inspire this new group to continue on their path of living a healthy and active lifestyle.

More than just a virtual or “online” race where participants run a distance and then report their time, the Gulf Coast Challenge allows participants to choose 100, 165, 230, or 460 miles that they will complete within the safety of their own community. Results are logged on the Gulf Coast Challenge website and participants can follow their progress of their avatar on the chosen route. Participants can utilize Google Streetview to see where their progress has taken them.

Beyond simply traversing miles, the Gulf Coast Challenge utilizes many of the same race courses and iconic finish lines of our fall & winter races. The challenge routes take participants virtually across Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, three states ranked near the bottom nationally for health, and the 3 states in which FRESHJUNKIE Racing hosts endurance events. This initiative is a great way to get the gulf coast healthier, one mile and one participant at a time. Additionally, the Challenge is a great way to stay motivated and engaged while training through the hot summer months.

Registration is $50 for any of the distances, and it includes a super-soft participant shirt, decal sticker, and a Finisher’s medal worth bragging about. The entry fee also helps to support race entry scholarships for kids through the charitable funds, Louisiana Runs & Run Gulf Coast with 5% of all entry fees going to the funds. Participants are encouraged to match the donation during the registration process.
