Formula Fixed Kart Track Showcase To Offer Glimpse of Cycling’s Future

Top fixed gear talent gathers for a thrilling cycling event, redefining how fans and athletes engage with the sport.

Los Angeles, CA/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Formula Fixed Gear Racing kicks off the future of cycling with the Kart Track Showcase from 8-10 PM on Friday, October 11 at K1 Speed in Burbank, CA. The landmark event brings the world’s top fixed gear talent and introduces a bold new approach to the sport. The Kart Track Showcase will deliver unmatched excitement, redefining how fans and athletes engage with the sport of cycling.

“The Grand Tours were started to sell newspapers, and in a lot of ways, cycling is still a newspaper sport. We think there’s an opportunity for a version of cycling that resonates with modern American sports fans,” says James Grady, CEO of Formula Fixed. “We’re centering the spectator experience and presenting an event that’s fast, fun, highly entertaining and easy to understand. The elite athleticism and larger-than-life personalities of the riders will empower us to tell stories that bring the sport into a new era of cultural significance.

Kart Track Showcase

The Showcase event will take place at K1 Speed in Burbank, CA. The format is an elimination race: eight riders per heat start and the last rider across the finish line on every lap is eliminated. The tournament will feature three rounds of qualifying, followed by Semifinals, “Redemption Rounds”, and lastly the Finals.

Riders were invited or applied to participate, and each is receiving a stipend. ‘We’re going to grow cycling into a true spectator sport,’ says Grady. ‘My goal is to create a platform where these world-class athletes can earn salaries on par with NBA players.”

One of the biggest strengths of Formula Fixed lies in its deep ties to fixed gear culture. The venture is an evolution of Mission Crit, the San Francisco-based fixed gear criterium that ran from 2014 to 2019, with an exciting encore in 2022 as part of the Red Bull Fixed Gear Triple Crown. COO Clare Grady explains: “Fixed gear racing grew out of the bike messenger scenes in New York and San Francisco – the vibe is more akin to skate culture than traditional European cycling culture. Our races feature big personalities, bold attitudes, and an irresistible element of danger. The racers and audience accurately reflect the diversity of America, making it easier for a broader audience to connect with the sport.”

The team behind Formula Fixed has been on the vanguard of cycling culture for over 10 years. Led by husband and wife co-founders James and Clare Grady the core team is rounded out by Head of Content Maxx Caicedo and Creative Director Eastman Garcia. The Kart Track Showcase is produced in association with Elevate Pictures and is supported by Kraft Heinz, Red Bull, Underdog Sportsbook, Rapha, and Bicycle Law.

Event Schedule

The Formula Fixed Kart Track Showcase will take place from 8-10 PM on Friday, October 11 at K1 Speed Burbank. Doors open at 7 PM. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Food trucks and a DJ will be onsite, and alcohol is available for purchase for fans 21+. Fans unable to make it will be able to watch the live broadcast at formulafixed.com.
